Philippe Briand unveiled the latest concept from his London design studio, the 200ft / 60m SY200. Equipped with traditional sailing rigs, this 490GT sloop was built to surpass its brethren.

Unlike some sailing superyachts, which simply require an engine to navigate the water, SY200 can be called Purebred sailboat in every way. The design followed the same approach as for high performance racing yachts. At the same time in SY200 the characteristic features of Briand's creations are easily guessed: clean dynamic lines and effective naval architecture.
Fully driven by the wind, the sloop is a new wave Green superyachts... In particular, this is evidenced by the shape of the hull and the predicted performance of the yacht. Under optimal conditions, it will be able to reach speeds of over 20 knots.
Outstanding hydrodynamic efficiency means more energy can be used through subsea turbines to charge batteries on board. In theory, if the turbines capture 50% power, they would provide the equivalent of a 500 kW generator while maintaining a speed of about 15 knots.

Philip Briand chose sailing rigs for the sloop to complement the modern hull with a slightly sloping stem. The foremast is 274 feet (83.5 m) above the waterline with a jib area of over 3000 m² and a mainsail of 2000 m².
The design of the carbon mast and rigging is based in large part on the experience Philip received during the design and construction of the iconic 220-foot S / Y Vertigo and 240-foot S / Y Sybaris... These are a couple of the most famous yachts in recent history.
The yacht has a waterline length of 197 feet (60 m) with a maximum beam of 34.5 feet (10.5 m). The structure includes two spacious decks with ample space for guests. Briand has carefully balanced the proportions to create an overall sleek aesthetic.
This also applies to the impressive glass roof, which flows smoothly into the deck. The center of attraction for the guests of the yacht will be the owner's wheelhouse at the stern. Up to 14 people can gather here at the same time to experience the unique thrilling sensation of movement created by the natural force of the wind.
Enjoy the exterior to the fullest SY200 possible both at anchor and during a cruise or race. The uncluttered decks have a modern look and great views of the surrounding area.

The huge cockpit dining table for 16 is protected from the sun by a hard roof. A beautiful panoramic view opens up from here. On the transom there is a large terrace overlooking the sea, as well as a private part of the yacht with direct access to the owner's suite.
Instead of the traditional arrangement of the engine room amidships, below the main guest cabins, the SY200 have radically changed the layout. The engine room is located away from the guest area, closer to the bow.
This gave undeniable advantages: noise reduction in the guest area, easier access from the crew quarters, additional space amidships to increase the area of the guest cabins. The increased weight at the front allowed the keel, and thus the mast, to be moved further aft for greater efficiency.
The aft part is completely dedicated to the privacy of guests. The owner's apartment is full width and leads to a large terrace with hidden jacuzzi and direct access to the water.
The final layout of the interior can be tailored to the wishes of the client, but the initial drawings assume a spacious owner's suite with two bathrooms, a study and a private terrace on the main deck. Four guest cabins are located on the lower deck, along with cabins for 12 crew members.

Philip Briand commented on the announcement SY200“I have always believed in technology and efficiency as they are integral to the yacht design process. We used to design sailing yachts with an explicit or implicit goal of winning the races, so gambling owners pushed the industry to develop more and more high-tech sailboats.
“But the younger generation has little interest in competition and the demand for modern sailing yachts of this kind is plummeting. I believe we should think outside the box when it comes to the future of design. We want to work with the owners to create the perfect machine that uses only renewable energy sources: sun, wind, water. A yacht that offers an extraordinary sea exploration experience and peace of mind on board.
“Instead of using competition between owners as a motivator, commitment to sustainability will lead to pushing the boundaries of technology and efficiency in superyachting. This is the idea we are passionate about right now. "
SY200 Concept in Brief
- Equivalent power used by the sails SY200rated for 2000 kW under optimal wind conditions
- While swimming SY200 will capture some of the kinetic energy when the underwater turbines move. The yacht will generate 500kW at 15 knots and 200kW at 12 knots, which is enough to meet domestic needs on board and to provide maneuvering systems under sail.
- The motive to create SY200 for Philippe Briand became the idea of a yacht that would not pollute the environment while traveling
- The energy in the 22-ton battery will allow the yacht to be get power silently
- 80% yacht length, including the main living deck on one level, protected by glass and hardtop. The huge glass in the roof above this area provides an unobstructed view of the forward and upward - to the sail and mast
- Revolutionary layout allows more space for guest cabins and owner's quarters, and thanks to the remote location of the engine room, noise levels are reduced
- Owner's apartment has private access to the sea
- The original yacht decor concepts are based on the use of pure raw materials and will be performed by an interior designer of the owner's choice.
- SY200 designed for displacement less than 500 GT, which reduces its weight and maintenance costs.
