Large-format explorer yachts can now boast not only size but also autonomy. Interparus tells you about the Super Polaris 70 superyacht!
Key technical features of the Super Polaris 70
The yacht's design and exterior were overseen by naval architect and designer Antonio Luxardo, who has been Cantieri di Pisa's chief designer for many years. Alessandro Paulino worked on the interior design. Genoa-based shipyard T. Mariotti is also actively involved in the yacht's creation.
In the new Super Polaris 70 project, Luxardo focused not only on the yacht's autonomy but also on its cruising range. According to the shipyard, the Super Polaris 70 will have a range of 6,000 nautical miles at a speed of 10 knots. To achieve this, two large CAT 3512 engines will be installed onboard.
The Super Polaris 70 is positioned not only as a pleasure yacht but also as a supply yacht: it can carry crew, provisions, and spare parts, and even accommodate workshops onboard. Additionally, the yacht will feature two side compartments for tenders up to 8.5 meters long and two tender launching stations on the main deck.
New format for the shipyard
The Cantieri di Pisa shipyard began its journey back in 1945, building sailing yachts. Over more than half a century, the shipyard has earned a reputation as a boatbuilder that understands not only design but also technology. In the 1970s, Cantieri di Pisa began developing yachts whose names were inspired by constellations and planets: Pegasus, Saturno, Jupiter, Polaris, and Kitalpha.
Everything changed in 2021, when Enrico Gennasio took over the shipyard and redefined its direction. Today, Cantieri di Pisa is focused not only on creating new boats but also on reimagining its existing yacht lines. The entire Polaris lineup exemplifies this approach.
Original Polaris
Interestingly, the Polaris line dates back to 1961 with a 13.2-meter cruiser. The "Super" prefix was added to the name in 1964 with the addition of a flybridge. The modern Super Polaris line differs significantly from its predecessor, with minimum yacht dimensions starting at 38 meters. The model range also includes 48-, 60-, and now 70-meter versions. The Super Polaris 70 will be the largest yacht in the line.
The superyacht is positioned as an "explorer." In today's marketplace, this term refers more to the level of autonomy than the yacht's actual purpose. With the Super Polaris, the shipyard has taken on a complex yacht format that must combine not only autonomy but also high-quality execution.
Super Solaris 70 Layout
In addition to its impressive cruising range, the yacht boasts a flexible layout. It features four full-size decks. The upper deck is designed for outdoor relaxation. At the owner's discretion, it can be converted into either a volleyball court or a full-size swimming pool.
As Luxardo says, "Every detail is carefully crafted to pay homage to the stylistic signatures that define our brand. The design of the Super Polaris 70 is an evolution of our shipyard's traditional style." The yacht's exterior is simple yet refined: elongated horizontal lines, soft curves, and large expanses of glass create a contemporary and elegant style.
The interior, created by Pulina Exclusive Interiors, is crafted from natural materials—walnut, linen, and cashmere—and features a light, neutral palette with soft taupe tones and warm wood. Combined with travertine surfaces, this creates a refined, cozy, and calming atmosphere.
Living space on board
The yacht's layout is designed for comfortable, long-term stays on board. The guest area includes six double cabins, accommodating twelve guests, with the spacious master suite particularly noteworthy. Located on the main deck, it measures approximately 95 square meters and boasts two side balconies of 20 square meters each.
The VIP cabin on the upper deck is also impressive: a private terrace and direct access to the large living and dining area create a sense of privacy and luxurious space. Ten crew cabins are available on the lower deck, accommodating up to 16 guests.
Body materials and their combinations
The use of steel for the hull, aluminum for the superstructure, and composites for the superstructure is standard in the large yacht segment. Steel provides exceptional strength and is suitable for navigation in challenging conditions, including waters with potential for ice.
Aluminum components significantly reduce the weight of the upper hull, which helps control the center of gravity and improves the vessel's stability. Composite materials, meanwhile, offer freedom in shaping and provide additional weight reduction where it's most critical.
This combination requires precise engineering and strict control of the mechanical, thermal, and galvanic processes that can affect the materials. T. Mariotti Shipyard has significant experience in this area, gained in the construction of passenger ships, and successfully applies it to yacht building.
Super Polaris 70 Onboard Equipment
The Super Polaris 70 offers a high level of customization. In addition to auxiliary boats—up to 12 tenders and water toys—the yacht features a spacious 180-square-meter beach club. It includes a spa, gym, and swimming pool, creating the perfect environment for a truly relaxing time on the water.
The main deck features a winter garden and the owner's suite—a central stateroom with two private terraces of 20 m² each. The upper deck is designed for VIP guests and also features a private terrace.
This profound level of customization was made possible by the work of Pulina Exclusive Interiors. It requires precise integration of naval architecture and interior design solutions to maintain a balance between functionality, safety, and luxury.
