In Lanveauque, northwest France, skipper-entrepreneur Arnaud Godard-Philippe builds a new shipyard
New shipyard in Lanveok south of Brest harbor.
Arnaud Godard-Philippe created AGP Course au Large in 2008 to manage sports projects. For the needs of his Figaro Bénéteau 2 project, the skipper has opened a preparation site at Camaret-sur-Mer, on the Crozon peninsula.
Wanting to develop yachting on the peninsula and get closer to Brest (a port city in the Finistere department in Brittany, France), Arno moved to Lanveoc, near the naval school.
He plans to improve the service of racing yachts and provide additional services to large pleasure boats in the harbor of Brest.
“This is a former NATO base. The French navy handed it over to the metropolitan area. Today we are a bit like the first of the Mohicans, ”the entrepreneur sneers, who hopes other maritime companies will join him.
Telescopic nave to accommodate larger boats.
Arnaud Godard-Philippe will be able to accommodate larger objects in his new premises.
“We were in a 12 by 6 meter container base in Camarete, while in Lanveok we will have 250 m² of covered area with a telescopic nave to accommodate boats up to 20 meters in length. Having a 6-meter "pit", we will be able to place deep-water sailing ships here ", - rejoices Arno Godard-Philippe.
The area of the site, which is planned to be commissioned in January 2021, will be 2,000 m2 on 3 hectares of the former military base. Thus, it will be able to provide dry port services.
“The 100-meter berth provides access for boats with a draft of 6 to 7 meters. It is planned to invest in a hydraulic cradle with a lifting capacity of 12 tons, ”explains the skipper of AGP Course au Large.
Combining racing yachting with cruising
Born for sporty sailing, the shipyard will be able to expand its activities.
“We will be open for super yachting, cruises, as well as for renovation, reconstruction or preparation of special programs.
The shipyard offers comprehensive services, with combined, sandblasting and painting works.
We are currently working on the development of component parts for NKE as well, ”says Arnaud Godart-Philippe. International races remain in the program, one of the employees is preparing the Mini 6.50 project, and the founder is working on the Route du Rum project in 6 years. "
“We can welcome the riders to our territory and also help them organize the project,” he adds.
A new stratifier is to be added to the AGP Course au Large team shortly. Employment sustainability is part of the company's project.
“Initially, the work in the yachting industry was aimed at keeping the teams together because there is little stability in ocean racing and it can be difficult to find people when it comes time to start a new project,” says the AGP boss. Let's hope this consolidation continues. "
