French shipyard Jeanneau turns 60
In 1957 Henri Jeannot (Henri Jeanneau)already passionate about airplanes and cars, he discovered a new passion for motorboats. Soon, he began building a wooden hulled boat, in which he took part in the six-hour Paris race, the largest national race at the time, and was the first to cross the finish line. And already in 1958, the first boat with a fiberglass hull was built at his small shipyard. This new petrochemical material has brought about an unprecedented technological breakthrough.
In 1958, 3 boats were produced per week. It was necessary to demonstrate to clients that fiberglass would work like wood. By 1970, several models had already been produced, but the sailing yacht Sangria was simply a huge success, providing Jeanneau leadership in the design and construction of sailing boats.
