Expedition superyachts have always been in a separate division. Now there is a replenishment in its ranks - the Mako superyacht, named after mako sharks.
Mako and inspirations
This is not the first time we have seen a yacht inspired by the flora and fauna of our planet. Design studio State of Craft decided it was time to join this trend. The result of the work of the studio was the yacht Mako.
Last Thursday, the multidisciplinary design studio unveiled a new concept for an expedition superyacht. One of the features of the yacht, which was even taken into the name, is “kinship” with sharks of the mako genus.
It is difficult to say that the superyacht is “anatomically” similar to a shark, but the creators laid a different meaning. Grace, speed and strength are the hallmarks that State of Craft designers wanted to implement in their project.
The yacht was created with an eye on long-distance travel and exploration. 394 feet (120 meters) from bow to transom, a sleek silver hull and excellent driving performance - it's all about the Mako.
Designer's view
“Many of our investors were skeptical about the project,” says CEO and founder Daniel Goldberg. “How is this a shark-inspired yacht? Very simple. Everything is much easier than it seems! The fluidity, efficiency, and beauty of the smooth, almost sculptural forms of mako sharks inspired us.
We wanted the hull, superstructure, interior and exterior spaces to work together, not only in terms of practical application. But what is no less important - stylistically. Remember the ships from the Star Wars saga? These were not aircraft - it was a unity of form and content. It is stylistically important to maintain the rhythm of the created yacht.
Moreover, our aerodynamic models and calculations show that such a model will not only demonstrate high driving performance, but will also have excellent stability. In contrast, let's be honest, from some trimarans and gigayachts with exorbitantly huge hulls.
Mako as an expedition ship
Mako is positioned as an ice-class expedition vessel. To ensure sufficient autonomy, hydrogen fuel cells, hydrogen and solar cells are on board. Also, the superyacht is equipped with electric motors.
The yacht should become another representative of "green yachting" - yachting without harmful emissions into the atmosphere. Alas, more detailed specifications are not disclosed at this stage.
Spacious interiors, meanwhile, eschew traditional right angles in favor of curved lines and sloped walls. Naturally, the layout can be modified to suit the needs of commercial establishments or private researchers.
The outdoor aft deck provides guests with an extensive 270-degree view. Aft of the yacht there is also a large sunken lounge area, a wide beach club and a garage where tenders can be stored and moored.
