Are you going to Croatia this summer? Well, we have several options that will diversify your cultural program!
A few words about Croatia
Croatia is one of the most popular destinations not only among yachtsmen, but also among tourists. People flock here from all over Europe to enjoy the cultural heritage and diversity, admire the natural beauties and taste the local delicacies.
In addition, a great variety of festivals and events take place on the territory of the country. Luckily, a good portion of these events take place in coastal towns, so getting to them while on a cruise is no problem!
Let's move on to the most interesting - a selection of the best festivals that are definitely worth a visit.
An outlet for a music lover
Zrce beach is one of the most popular places in Croatia. Crystal water, soft white sand and picturesque views attract a large number of tourists. But for music lovers, this beach is also important because music festivals are regularly held on its territory. Among them: the multi-day festival Hideout, Sonus Festival, Fresh Island Festival and Barrakud. For those who like to come off to the fullest on the beach, there are many clubs and bars that are open until the morning.
If you are a fan of electronic music, then definitely your course lies in the city of Split. It is here that one of the largest electronic music festivals in Europe, Ultra Europe, takes place every year. Another option for lovers of electronic music is the Full Moon Festival in Zadar. This is another annual event that usually takes place in August. Here you can meet many musicians of different styles, but electronic music is more in favor.
Or maybe you like rock and live instruments? Well, then you are on your way to Zagreb, the capital of Croatia. There is a popular music festival INmusic. Rock bands and representatives of indie, techno and even country - this festival brings together many genres. The summer music festival in Rovinj starts in July and lasts until September. At this festival you will find jazz, classical orchestras, and rock.
Starfish is one of the youngest music festivals in Croatia. It was first held in 2017, but has already become one of the largest in Croatia. One of the main features of the festival is a diverse composition of musicians playing and singing in different styles. This festival opens the musical season in Croatia. If you want to get on it, then we advise you to hurry up, because the “Starfish” usually starts in May!
Cultural events
The city of Split in the hot summer turns into the capital of cultural exchange and a real cultural center. The Summer Festival in Split runs from July to August. The festival includes many events - theatrical performances, music festivals and dance performances.
Theatrical performances in the historic Diocletian's Palace are especially recommended for visiting. There is no need to talk about art exhibitions, because this, as they say, must be seen with your own eyes.
The second on the list is another summer cultural festival, but already in Dubrovnik. As with Split, the local festival is held from July to August. This event is one of the oldest, influential and prestigious in Croatia.
Slightly less popular is the Makarska Cultural Festival. It is one of the longest - it starts in June and ends in September. During these four months you will have an incredible and truly unique opportunity to visit and see a huge variety of cultural events. And musical, and dance, and theatrical events will not leave you indifferent.
Moviegoers get ready
And although most often film festivals are part of full-fledged summer cultural festivals, we decided to separate them into a separate item.
One of the most interesting film festivals takes place in Motovun. It is dedicated to independent, alternative and auteur cinema. In addition to film screenings, seminars, discussions, master classes, etc. are also held at the event. Interestingly, the first film festival in Motovun was held in 1999 and almost immediately became one of the most important film festivals in Croatia.
At this event, you can meet both industry professionals and passionate enthusiasts. The festival also presents a wide variety of films - documentaries, short films, feature films, feature films, art house and other joys of cinema.
The Pula Film Festival is considered to be the oldest film festival in all of Croatia. It is traditionally held in July. There are screenings of not only international, but also Croatian films.
Festivals for every taste and color
If you like to dance or watch charming dances, then you should at least take a peek at Salsa Beach Splash, which takes place on the island of Pag. The festival is dedicated to salsa. Don't worry if you don't know how to dance - during the event there are seminars where everyone will be taught this art.
Good wine is also a separate art form. If after salsa you want to relax a little and get to know the ancient art of winemaking better, then your course should run through the island with the unusual name of Krk. It is here that a real wine festival takes place - “Days of Wine on the Island of Krk”. It usually falls at the end of August and the beginning of September. But who is stopping you from having wine days on the island of Krk in July?
If, nevertheless, you did not get to the festival on time, then in addition to wine tasting, you will be given tours of the vineyards, will be given the opportunity to enjoy live music and local delicacies.
Sports and active recreation
We left two festivals for a snack. Before conquering the wine cellars on Krka, physical preparation should be taken care of. For this, the open-air festival in Zadar is the best fit. It is dedicated to outdoor activities and a variety of sports.
Here you can fully enjoy kayaking, mountain biking, rock climbing. In addition, here you can listen to live music and participate in competitions. The festival is held in May.
If you are traveling with your child, then look into Sibenik. This is where the International Children's Festival takes place. It starts in late June - early July.
A variety of competitions, fun activities, fresh air, as well as increased attention to children's creativity and the development of child skills. This is a real outlet for little artists and artists.
And this is only a small part of all cultural events in Croatia. There are a lot of such festivals held every year, and getting to them is usually very simple. Do not forget about the importance of cultural exchange and good rest!
