The Canadian company Vision Marine presented its new unsinkable boat Phantom. Interparus will tell you about the features of the new product!
A breakthrough in the design of watercraft from Vision Marine
Shipyards have been trying to improve their yacht designs for decades. Some people emphasize comfort, for others driving performance is more important, and some shipyards are aimed at luxury. Vision Marine decided on a risky experiment in the design of its boats. The result, according to the company, was a real breakthrough!
So, what did Vision Marine do that was so revolutionary? According to a press release, Canadians from Vision Marine were able to come up with a special way to build boats. It is based on the long-established technology of molding the body from resins and degradable plastic. The peculiarity of the new way of building boats is that Vision Marine was able to achieve increased production efficiency while reducing the cost of boats.
As company representatives say, according to preliminary estimates, Vision Marine will be able to produce up to 300 units of motor boats of the new Phantom series per year. Moreover, each boat will cost 70% less than an alternative in the form of boats with similar dimensions made of fiberglass. Potential production scaling will allow the production of 1,500 units of Phantom boats per year!
Features of the new Phantom boat
The Phantom series is positioned as a universal solution for any yachtsman. She can be used either as a hard-sided tender or as a stand-alone boat for short weekend trips. Another direction where the creators of Phantom have set their sights is the boat rental and rental market around the world.
The body of the new product is made of recyclable durable plastic. Thanks to a special technology for molding the case, it was possible to achieve high strength and durability of the case. According to the company, the Phantom body will not require any special care. Regular cleaning should help avoid major problems with the case. The “unsinkability” of the boat is achieved by shifting the center of gravity.
Another feature is the way the Phantom is sold. Globally, there are three versions of the Phantom, identical in appearance. The first version is the standard electric version, which is capable of operating autonomously for five hours. The second version is an electric version based on the ePropulsion engine. This version can work for about ten hours without recharging.
And the most interesting thing is that the company also offers the opportunity to buy only a plastic case. Vision Marine claims that almost any internal combustion engine can be installed on the Phantom, the main thing is that the dimensions allow it to be placed in the aft compartment.
Other Phantom Features and Specifications
Vision Marine places great emphasis on the environmental component. According to the company, the plastic from which the case is made can be recycled at least 9 (!) times in the future. How close is this statement to reality? The question is open.
Another interesting question concerns the color palette. The entire body is painted in one of the 5 primary colors offered by the manufacturer. The choice is limited, but thanks for that.
Seating is a separate topic for discussion. There are no seats provided - please sit down on bare plastic. Taking into account the rather colorful coloring of the hull, it gives the impression of a toy boat, and not a serious Canadian design.
The idea of such a boat in itself is very interesting, but the implementation of the stars from the sky is not enough. In any case, if the Phantoms of the first series perform well, then we should probably expect improvements in subsequent releases.
