Traditionally, the European Yacht of the Year awards ceremony takes place as part of the largest European boat show in Dusseldorf. And one thing is for sure - it's always very exciting!
2019 European Yacht of the Year nominees announced
The great thing about this ceremony is that you can view the nominated yachts in detail in the showrooms! Performance, comfort, quality of construction, value for money, design and unique technical innovations are characteristics that are judged by an international jury.
First category Family-cruiser includes relatively small yachts designed for family cruises, day trips, and long-distance cruises with family or friends. This category is typical cruise boats. They can offer plenty of space and comfort, but just as importantly, they are easy enough to handle for a small crew or alone.
Besides their versatility, family cruisers should be relatively affordable, so many are built in large shipyards. While in the past the segment has been mostly limited to 30 to 45 feet, the market has been flooded with larger models lately, which also get more sophisticated every year. This trend is driven in part by the charter industry.
So, the nominated yachts for the 2019 European Yacht of the Year in the Family-Cruiser category:
- Beneteau Oceanis 46.1
- Dufour 390 Grand Large
- Hallberg-Rassy 340
- Mojito 1088
- Swallow Coast 250
Dufour 390 Grand Large
Dufour 390 Grand Largewho is nominated for the award European Yacht of the Year 2019, will be presented for the first time at Cannes Yachting Festival September 11-16, 2018! The Dufour shipyard, co-owned by Fountaine Pajot since this year, just recently launched its cruise line on the market Grand large.
Dufour 390 intended for both the charter market and private owners, offering up to three cabins and three bathrooms on the boat, as well as a reasonable cockpit and deck layout. In addition, this boat is very easy to sail under sail.

The second category is multihull yachtswhich includes both catamarans and trimarans, both of which can offer exceptionally large living space on board as well as generally higher speed potential than comparable monohulls.
Although catamarans and trimarans were considered somewhat exotic 25 years ago, there have been staggering growth rates lately. In fact, there is such a demand for them that waiting lists for a year or two in advance seem to be the norm. Why is that? Well, looking at cruising catamarans, one of the obvious reasons is the great space, comfort and privacy on board they offer, which explains their increasingly dominant presence in many charter fleets. When it comes to trimaran, stability and performance are the main factors.
Nominated yachts for the 2019 European Yacht of the Year in the Multihull category:
- Fountaine Pajot Astrea 42
- Astus 20.5
- Aventura 34
Fountaine Pajot Astrea 42
In our quest to continue to be the leading multihull yacht builder in the world, Fountaine pajot is updating its lines at a high rate. This year they launched a catamaran Astrea 42, which has already become one of the most demanded on the market. Last year, the same sensation made Saona 47... More importantly, although the French shipyard continues to improve design and build quality, they are simultaneously focusing on improving comfort and functionality.

Aventura 34
Compact catamaran Aventura 34 - this is another pleasant discovery of the year on the actively developing catamarans market. With a length of less than 10 meters and 4.5 tons of displacement, the Aventura is easy to handle even a beginner. The catamaran offers good sailing area for above average performance compared to typical rather clumsy cruising multihulls. As standard you will get three cabins and one bathroom, another option offers 2 cabins and two separate bathrooms. This is a very interesting budget proposal for private owners and charter fleets.
