ATP2: Ethernet speed and reliability

Introducing the new Lymington-based ATP2 processor. The processor provides a seamless and ultra-fast Ethernet network. This will integrate all of the boat's electronics into a single ecosystem.

Why do you need ATP2?

The ATP2 processor enables Ethernet networking with a single wire connecting all sensors and displays. This cable also provides 12V phantom power for low power devices. 

The processor makes it possible to combine displays for continuous monitoring of the status of systems. So, you can see all the necessary data from anywhere in your yacht. Install displays in the cabin and in the cockpit - yacht speed, weather forecast, fuel amount and other important information will always be at hand.

We should also highlight the connection restrictions. More precisely, their absence! A large number of devices can be connected to the processor. And this will not affect its performance in any way. 

If you are sailing a yacht that depends on high-tech systems, then you are familiar with the problem of a large number of cables. The A + T system aims to simplify all of this.

What are the advantages and disadvantages?

Of course, waterproofness and corrosion resistance will be an unambiguous advantage. The developers knew that the processor would obviously not be used at home. That is why the device has been reinforced and protected in every possible way.

Another advantage will be the ability to install the processor into existing, off-the-shelf systems. The flexibility of customization will make it possible to adjust the parameters for yourself and your yacht - no need to redo the ecosystem already created on board from scratch!

Some will be against this processor and its use: “We have Bluetooth! Why do we need more cables? ”. We have an answer to this. Even two!

First, ATP2 offers something new. It was developed taking into account the long-known and cunning science - cable management. This means that it may not be possible to completely get rid of the cables, but they will definitely be neatly assembled and it will be immediately clear what, where and why.

Secondly, Bluetooth is good and modern, but this technology is also imperfect. Devices can lose pairing and disconnect from the key node, resulting in data loss. Alas, even in the modern world they have not invented anything more reliable and safe than a cable.

Conclusion

A&T systems are not cheap. And, frankly, they will not be useful to everyone. The ATP2, for example, is priced at £ 6,300 minimum.  

By far the ATP2 is the best solution for boats that require fast and accurate readings. Or a boat with a large amount of equipment, data from which it is inconvenient to “collect” on different displays on board. For such cases, Ethernet will come in handy.
