Autumn has arrived, which means a new season for yachting! One of the best destinations for autumn yachting is Croatia. Interparus shares interesting activities for yachtsmen!
Autumn yachting in Croatia
Naturally, the most important thing for us yachtsmen is sailing! If summer in the Adriatic is mostly calm, then autumn is a completely different matter. Croatia and Montenegro are famous for their winds in autumn. The perfect time to hone your skills.
The real “autumn sailing” in this region begins at the end of October. The winds are getting stronger, the waves are getting bigger, and real sea wolves are going out to sea. If you feel that you are not yet ready for such an experience, then you can always invite a skipper who is wise in life and the sea, who, moreover, will help you learn something new.
In general, autumn is the ideal time not for a casual cruise, but for exciting sailing in appropriate conditions. However, keep in mind that it may be rainy and you should take care of the appropriate equipment in advance.
Charter and regattas
Charter prices in Croatia in autumn are quite affordable. The influx of tourists and visiting yachtsmen is subsiding, there are more places in marinas... You can even breathe more freely! Of course, no one will charter a boat for free, but at this time of year the prices can be an order of magnitude lower than in the summer. And the closer to winter, the lower the prices.
In addition to charter, Croatia can offer another type of entertainment - regattas. Well, for some it’s a show, but for others it’s the meaning of life. Ultimately, it is in the fall that a wide variety of regattas take place in the Adriatic, which replace one another with incredible speed. It’s even interesting to watch them, not to mention taking part in one of the amateur regattas.
Warm sea and marine life
In autumn in Croatia and Montenegro the sea can still be quite warm. Until October, the water temperature can stay up to 20 degrees! For untrained swimmers this temperature may be cold, but for experienced swimmers the water is pleasant and refreshing.
Due to the relatively high water temperature, dolphins can be found in the Adriatic almost until winter. And in decent quantities. In autumn, the flow of tourists subsides and the noise that scares away marine life becomes less.
Because of this, various representatives of marine fauna can be found quite close to the shore. Rumor has it that those who are especially lucky will be able to see a fin whale with their own eyes! The veracity of the rumors is questionable, but the fin whale's habitat is very vast, so... Why shouldn't it be true?
The true face of Croatia
Experienced travelers know that the city during the peak tourist season and during the calm period are two different cities. This is worth taking advantage of if you want to immerse yourself in the atmosphere of Croatia without the endless crowds of tourists. Dubrovnik, Hvar, Trogir and many other cities empty out with the onset of autumn and winter. It is clear that tourists are still present, but in much smaller numbers.
A bonus to this will be a general decrease in prices as the season ends. As in the case of a charter, the prices are unlikely to be cheap, but they are still much nicer than in July or August.
Festival season
When tourists return home, another invasion begins in Croatia - this time a festival one. It is smaller in scale than the summer influx of travelers, but it is an excellent opportunity for you to get to know local customs better.
Among the largest and most famous festivals, wine festivals definitely stand out. In addition to them, it is also worth visiting local fairs, local food festivals, etc.
