The yacht, which combines the features of both racing and cruise boats, is successfully passing the stages of creation and will soon go to the workshop. What kind of animal is this and why is it better than its competitors?
The new Italian yacht Grand Soleil 72 Performance shows excellent performance. The yacht combines the best of Mediterranean sailing with comfort and a large cabin.
Frame
The sleek lines and low-profile deckhouse roof boast what is called a 'time and space' design. In general, the shape of the case embodies the latest design solutions. Without hints of temporary trends and trends!
“The goal was to take advantage of modern body shapes to improve performance. In addition, it is possible to create a yacht with a large capacity for a comfortable stay, ”says Chief Designer of Grand Soleil Performance 72 Matteo Polli.
“This shape is different from what we've seen in the past,” he adds. “The body is wide, which gives it enough volume. The interior of the boat is a key element, even though its waterline width (beam) is quite small. ”
Combined with rounded underwater sections, this results in a smaller wetted surface.
This optimizes sail performance. This shortens the engine's use time.
In strong winds, when the pitching begins, the boat can heel heavily. It is at this moment that the ray begins its work. What does it do? A 20 degree roll provides unrivaled stability.
Grand Soleil 72 for all occasions
Although the Grand Soleil 72 Performance is optimized for simpler conditions, the boat is expected to be able to navigate effectively on a collision course with three main reefs and a small staysail. And this is at 40 knots of true wind!
This feature and its adaptability to severe weather instills confident optimism about this boat.
The mast is located closer to the stern. It is nearer than usual, however, allowing for quick, efficient and easy headsails selection, including two sizes of headsails for heavy weather conditions.
Rigid strength
The highly sought-after Italian designer who previously worked with Maurizio Cossutti and Italia Yachts really wanted this boat to have only one rudder!
The rudder blade is shifted closer to the midsection, as in the TP52. Therefore, it works at a distance from choppy water near the transom and does not rise out of the water when heeling. Thus, the efficiency of such a rudder remains unchanged even if the roll is very large.
The structure is made of modern composite materials. This is done to achieve a very lightweight yet rigid construction. This feature takes into account the inevitable increase in the mass of the structure and tanks.
In turn, this is necessary for the overall weight fixation and avoidance of overload, so that the yacht remains nimble and fast.
