The Düsseldorf boat show burst into the third decade of the century. Visitors were delighted with the extensive program and the huge number of products and services presented by over 1,900 exhibitors in 17 halls of the exhibition area.
A brilliant start to the new decade: the results of the exhibition in Dusseldorf
Representatives of the international community of water sports enthusiasts enthusiastically held 9 eventful days in Dusseldorf. It was a time of networking, successful business and unforgettable experiences.

General manager Messe Dusseldorf, Werner Dornscheidt, summed up the exciting days: “The boat show has turned into something more than just an exhibition. it an event of great innovation and economic importance and, at the same time, it represents an incredible passion for water sports. Over the past few days, it has been noticeable how much interest is boot Dusseldorf for the whole world."
More than 250,000 water sports fans from 106 countries attended the boat show this year.
For comparison: in 2019 there were 247,700 of them. More than 24 % visitors came from abroad in Germany. Among them were mainly residents of Italy, France, the Netherlands, Belgium, Great Britain, Switzerland, USA and Canada.
“The large proportion of foreign guests shows that we have well prepared the concept of the boat show for future development,” commented the director of the exhibition. Petros Michelidakis.
He also added: “Here in Düsseldorf, in the heart of the landlocked North Rhine-Westphalia, we have truly succeeded in creating the most important international water sports site. This year, exhibitors have convincingly demonstrated how impressive industry innovation is. The focus of attention has become alternative energy systems, boat building from renewable raw materials and international ocean protection projects. ”
A landmark for the water sports industry
For representatives of the water sports industry Dusseldorf boat show 2020 - a stage on the way to success. Visitors are absolutely satisfied
96% visitors noted that they were absolutely satisfied with their visit to the exhibition. Petros Michelidakis reported that “New layout of the halls with separate routes for different target groups was a successful solution ”.
Guests of the boat show could choose an individual route from the following:
- “Energetic Walk” - through Halls 1-9, for lovers of motor boats;
- “Sailing trip” - from 15 to 17 halls;
- “Festive Walk” - in halls 13 and 14;
- “Diver's Walk” - in halls 11 and 12;
- The surfers' hotspot is in hall 8a.
Benefits from the new layout for diving pavilions
Equipment suppliers for diving and organizers diving tours also benefited from the new location at the show. For diving enthusiasts, there were excellent conditions in halls 11 and 12. More than 400 exhibitors represented practically the entire existing international community.
Many people attracted diving pool for beginners and diving tower for advanced... The "mermaid" and the exciting program with the participation of an international star were very popular Pierre-Yves Cousteauas well as ocean activists Emily Penn and Hannes Janikke.
Best Surfer Show in Years
For the surfing industry boot Dusseldorf 2020 ended in overwhelming success. For 9 days, Pavilion 8a was visited by about 100,000 people... Here, 93 exhibitors from 17 countries warm up visitors with useful infotainment and inspirational interactive events.
After calling the largest water sports exhibition in the world, and its motto for surfers: "Make your move", about 4500 newbies and experienced surfers took part in the exciting event The Wave by citywave® in a large calm water pool, or on a skimboard track.
Both beginners and experts alike have tried their hand at different disciplines: surfing, skimboarding, paddle boarding, SUP yoga, futuristic foiling ("Flying over water"), and also experienced the return of a stormy windsurfing... Spectators were captivated by exciting international star competitions and the awards ceremony.
Florian Brunner, CEO and partner APM Marketing, member of the advisory board boot Dusseldorf, stressed:
“It was the best boat show in many years!”
Carsten Cray, brand manager Liquid Force Germany, also pleased with the course of events this year: “I have attended the exhibition in Dusseldorf for 40 years, and I can say: it was noisy here this year!
