New batteries, the growth of online boat rentals and a huge trimaran - the latest news from the world of yachting from Interparus!
New lithium-ion batteries with incredible run time
Amprius Technologies Inc, which is based in California, USA, announced the imminent start of production of "revolutionary batteries for boats." Revolutionary, according to the company, lies in the extended battery life of the 200%.
In fact, the new batteries will last twice as long as other lithium-ion batteries on the market. This was made possible by increasing the energy density to 500 watt-hours per kg. At the same time, batteries from Amprius will be half the size and weight of existing analogues.
A separate factory in Fremont, California will be opened to manufacture these batteries. Moreover, the new enterprise must create at least 330 new jobs. The launch of the production of new batteries is planned for 2025 and will be timed to coincide with the opening of the plant.
Online boat rental increased by 80%
When experts said that COVID would have long-term consequences, many twisted their fingers to their heads. Well, here's a hello from covid times - online boat rental has not only not become less popular with the easing of quarantine, but continues to gain momentum.
The Boatsetter company conducted research, the results of which were quite expected. In the last year, the number of boat bookings through websites, remotely through dealers and / or directly from shipyards has continued to maintain a steady growth. The demand for fast rentals is higher than ever.
Boatsetter attributes this increased interest in online rentals and shopping to the fact that you no longer need to drive or fly somewhere far away to place orders. The development that many rental services have gone through has also played a role, improving the quality of the services provided.
The short-term rental sector (rent from several days to 2-3 weeks) has especially revived. People have become more likely to book boats for weekends and vacations. The main advantage of such a reservation is the flexibility of tariff plans and the ability to extend the lease in a way convenient for the client.
Boatsetter herself reports that specifically in the US, demand has also skyrocketed - almost by the same 80%, but compared to 2022.
Wakinyan - the concept of a giant trimaran
Yacht designer Aras Kazar, widely known in narrow circles, recently released a new crazy concept of a trimaran. The trimaran is called “Wakíŋyaŋ” (or “Wakinyan”), which means “thunder” in the Lakota language.
And such a name is quite justified - the hull has straight, but rather smooth lines, and from above the trimaran is somewhat similar to a bird. Wakinyan will be made of aluminum. One of the features of the trimaran is the use of tempered glass as part of the hull skin. Not only will this provide plenty of natural light inside the yacht, but it will also provide amazing visibility for guests and crew alike.
Aras says that he created an interior that would convey a feeling of softness and tenderness, to make the interior “so that you feel peace and relaxation.” Wakinyan is planned to accommodate up to 12 guests in five staterooms and one master stateroom. The aft deck will feature a large swimming pool surrounded by sun loungers, as well as an indoor spa.
Another feature of the trimaran is its speed. Kazar says he didn't intend to create another "boring and slow superyacht concept". With its all-electric propulsion system and hydrofoils, Wakinyan is expected to reach a top speed of 32 knots. Sounds impressive. The length of the new trimaran should be 130 meters.
