New battery technology, restoration of Indian marina and J-class yacht at Ibiza JoySail 2023 regatta – the latest yachting news from Interparus!
Non-flammable Blue G batteries are being tested
ABS has begun testing new batteries for yachts. According to the manufacturer itself, batteries should "turn the game in the battery industry." The development is called Blue G.

At the moment, lithium batteries are very common in the yachting industry on boats of all sizes. The main disadvantage of such batteries, which covers all their advantages, is their fire hazard. The situation is quite tense, because in addition to the yachtsmen themselves, insurers are also sounding the alarm, which, as you know, are not very fond of taking on additional risks. New technology is designed to solve these problems.
The American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) has already given the Blue G battery NTQ qualification for use of the technology at sea. The new battery is being developed by Singapore-based Gennal Engineering Pte Ltd. The main tests of the new batteries are planned for the end of 2023.

Why are Blue Gs safer? These batteries are filled with a safer, water-based electrolyte solution. The solution uses vanadium and its unique ability to be in four different oxidation states at the same time. This ensures that the process of charging and active use does not generate excessive heat, which could cause the battery to catch fire.
Gennal Engineering claims that, in addition to increased fire safety, their batteries offer the ability to easily connect new batteries to the circuit and a longer service life. It is stated that Blue G will be able to serve for about 25 years. Also, the advantage of batteries will be that the process of their recycling should be much easier, safer and faster.
The only marina in India will still be restored!
Almost a month ago in our Telegram channel we have already talked about the plan to restore the only international marina in India. The other day, news came that the project would still be implemented.
The pier is located in the city of Kochi. Construction was completed in 2010, but ten years later the marina fell into disrepair. The last few years have been especially devastating. Now the marina is unsuitable for normal mooring and maintenance of yachts due to peeling decking.

At the moment, repair work has already begun. According to local media, not only the marina will be repaired, but also the surrounding areas - the Bolgatty Palace and Island Resort hotel and a high-rise residential area nearby.
The marina turned out to be surprisingly popular even in spite of its condition. Actually, it was the dissatisfaction of yachtsmen and tourists that led to the fact that the marina began to be restored. The administration of the marina and the hotel said that the repair "will continue to the bitter end."
2023 Ibiza JoySail Regatta Announced
Young, but actively developing and gaining popularity, the Ibiza JoySail regatta in 2023 will be held from September 28 to October 1, 2023. The regatta is held for the third year in a row and gradually attracts more and more eminent yachtsmen and yachts.

Among the participants in 2023, the yachts Swan 115 Moat, SW-RP90 Allsmoke, Swan 115 Jasi, Swan 80s Dark Horse and Sapma, YD120 Bliss and Frers 155 Hyperion, which took part last year, have already been noted.
Newcomers to the regatta include Prevail, Y Yacht 90, Aurelius, Dykstra 111, and SW94 Aragon. Interestingly, the already announced participants will also be joined by three teams on J-class yachts - Svea, Topaz and Lionheart. It is these three yachts that should become the headliners of the regatta this year.

Nacho Postigo, director of the regatta, says: "Of course, it's still early, but we have already received significant interest from almost all the yachts that participated last year and want to do it again, which is a great merit of Ibiza JoySail."
In 2022, Ibiza JoySail was a major success. In many ways, yachtsmen themselves had a hand in this, who enthusiastically not only took part in the races, but also agitated other athletes and amateurs to join them. Already this year, the regatta has received many requests to participate in the race. The influx of applicants was so great that the organizers decided to limit the number of participating boats.
