The new season has begun! Let's talk about where you can go in the spring and what you need to be prepared for.
Croatian direction
Croatia is already a classic yachting destination. If we talk about the beginning of the season, then spring is an ideal option for those who want to go to sea early. It is best to go south, to warmer and more welcoming regions.
Among these regions are Hvar, Brac or Split. Summer in Croatia is quite dry, so it is in spring that you can see the country in all its glory.
Italy
Many people prefer to explore Italy under sail in April-June. And for good reason - it is at this time of the year that the conditions are ideal for a pleasant cruise. Softer weather, no unbearable heat, much fewer tourists compared to the peak season… The list is long.
If you want to see the most beautiful places in all of Italy without unnecessary queues, then there is no better time than spring and early summer. One of the best destinations is Sicily. Naturally, one should not forget about other Italian pearls - the Gulf of Naples and the Amalfi Coast. There are many destinations in Italy to choose from.
Greece (Ionian Sea)
Looking for real freedom and quiet coves? Then your course will run through Greece. The Ionian Sea, and specifically the northern islands of Corfu, Lefkada, Zakynthos and Kefalonia, as well as Ithaca, are perfect for a pleasant sailing.
Starting from April, the water temperature in the Ionian Sea is in the range of 20-25 °C. The sunny and azure beaches of Greece are another place worth visiting. The area of the Ionian Sea is perfect for beginner sailors or sailors with families.
Balearic Islands
In summer, the Balearic Islands languish in the heat. It is in the summer that you can get the same “bronze” tan, but that's where the pluses end. Nights in Mallorca and Ibiza are also quite hot, so you should not wait for summer coolness.
Another thing is spring! Pleasant weather in the region begins in March and lasts until May. Mallorca and Ibiza are not yet crowded with tourists and party-goers at this time of the year, and good weather conditions allow even beginners to go to sea!
Corsican romance
Yes, as you already understood, the main problem of all popular destinations during the peak season is tourists, namely their number. Fortunately, Corsica is not crowded with tourists all year round.
In order to comfortably explore the island and its surroundings, it is best to come in April-May. In addition to being able to explore all the local sights in peace, you will also be able to have a good time sailing.
Seychelles
Do I need to say something about the Seychelles? A true tropical paradise, crystal clear waters, magical palm trees and pristine beaches… For so many sailors, the Seychelles is one of their favorite destinations – and for good reason!
In addition, it is believed that the Seychelles is one of the best places on the planet for yachting. There are no surprises of European weather, but there are all the distinctive features of the tropics. The hottest time of the year falls here exactly in March-April, but the local heat is not equal to the European one.
Yachtsmen are much more frequent guests here than ordinary tourists. This vast island archipelago has many secluded and quiet anchorages. Of the main advantages - these parking lots are located close enough and there is no need for long crossings.
French polynesia
Another tropical paradise, but this time at the very end of the world - in the Pacific Ocean. Here, almost all year round, pleasant and, as they say, “flying” weather. French Polynesia is one of the most interesting destinations.
Clear water, tranquility, virgin nature - all this is in French Polynesia. We recommend visiting the islands of Bora Bora, Uahine, Raiatea. This direction has two main problems. The first is that it is not so easy to get here. The second problem, in fact, is much more serious - after French Polynesia, many other destinations simply fade!
Cuba
Cuba is one of the best places to sail in the spring. Peak season in Cuba falls on December-April. At the end of the season, the number of tourists decreases here, and the weather is still good, although it can sometimes rain.
By the way, did you know that Cuba is not just a huge island. In fact, Cuba is a whole huge archipelago, which consists of about 4000 islands. Also near Cuba there are atolls and coral reefs that you can visit.
Advantages of spring yachting
The main advantage can be called a smaller number of tourists and vacationers. However, this is not the only advantage of yachting in the spring.
Plus, you'll spend less money. It is a well-known fact that the closer to the peak of the season, the higher the price tags are set by charter companies, marinas, shops and restaurants. The same applies to tickets to national parks or local cultural institutions (museums, theaters). At the beginning of the season, there is a good chance to save money on more important expenses.
Another advantage of sailing in the spring is that it is at this time of the year that favorable winds begin to blow - especially in Europe. Evil winter winds subside, and they are replaced by milder spring ones.
What should you be prepared for?
The main surprises can be thrown by the weather. If we talk about Europe, then the local spring is quite insidious, and even if the weather is quite warm on the coast, then you just have to move away from the coast and the temperature can drop noticeably. In exotic places like French Polynesia and the Seychelles, the local spring is more like summer. There are hot days, humid evenings and pleasant breezes.
You will definitely need waterproof clothing in case of rain, warm pajamas for cold nights and many other things, o which our instructors will gladly tell you.
