Boot Dusseldorf 2024 starts today! Some experts shared their opinions on yacht building trends. Interparus shares observations!
General trends in the yachting industry
Small yachts with a length of 9-15 meters are becoming increasingly popular. We are talking not only about the purchase, but also about the charter. The reason for the increase in popularity was the blurring of the boundaries between different types of monohull yachts.

Today the market offers many models that have both large internal spaces and very good driving characteristics. As a result, consumers are increasingly less likely to ask: “Should I take a yacht for sailing or for cruising?”
Among such universal yachts, it is worth highlighting the latest models from the Dufour Yachts shipyard, namely Dufour 41 and Dufour 44. These monohull yachts offer their owners not only a spacious saloon and cabins, but also good performance.
The galley is more than just a cooking space
An unexpected trend for yachts 10 meters and above is the use of the galley as a communal cooking space. Today, many yachts are equipped with impressive longitudinal galleys with large working spaces.

Also, much more often, yachts began to be equipped with at least one barbecue in the cockpit. As an addition, you can also find a full-fledged “outdoor” refrigerator.
Active use of interior space
Increasingly, shipyards are moving master cabins to the bow of yachts. Dufour 44 not an exception. In addition, the living spaces are expanding (lounge, guest cabins). It is also interesting that shipyards are increasingly paying attention to large storerooms and lockers.
It's safe to say that the average size of a yacht's interior space today has become significantly larger than that of similarly sized yachts ten years ago.
Comfort for everyone
Over the past ten years, the quality and comfort of mid-priced yachts has increased significantly. This is especially true for interior decoration, sleeping places, and bathrooms. The shipyard also pays a lot of attention to natural lighting of the interior.

Yacht manufacturers are increasingly equipping boats with reliable audio systems and televisions. A modern yacht increasingly resembles an apartment on the water, rather than an ascetic wooden boat. An abundance of artificial lighting (LED lamps, ceiling lights) provide greater brightness and comfort - this is another noticeable trend.
As for the interior spaces and their layout, today cabins with double beds are considered good form. At the same time, compartment cabins (with bunk beds) are becoming less and less common on cruise yachts. Increasingly, even ordinary cabins are equipped with a separate bathroom. On some yachts, the bathroom is completely separate - a separate room for a shower and a latrine.
Electrification and digitalization
Other sustainable trends include electrification and digitalization. Every year there are more yachts and even tenders that use electric engines instead of the well-known internal combustion engine. The popularity of electric motors is growing.
The most interesting thing is that more and more stock yachts are using electric or hybrid installations on board as a full-fledged alternative to internal combustion engines, and not as an option as before.

With the help of digital devices and maps, navigation becomes easier and faster. Today, the chart table in the salon looks much neater and more minimalistic than before. Chartplotters and navigators, GPS and AIS, IoT and automation, as well as control via a smartphone - all this is about modern yachting.
Today, many new yachts come with their own smartphone application for monitoring the energy system and safety. This sector will only grow in the future.
