The French Riviera is in full bloom before peak season, so it's time to visit before the tourist influx. Interparus will tell you about the five best places for yachting on the Cote d'Azur.
Spring is the best time for yachting in the south of France
Mid-spring is traditionally considered to be one of the best times for yachting on the Cote d'Azur. The air and water temperatures at this time of year are already quite high, but not yet exhausting, the harbors and coastal towns are just beginning to prepare for the summer yachting season, and there is plenty of free space for mooring!
It is mid-April or early May that is the best time for a spontaneous cruise on a sailing yacht, during which you do not have to book a place in the marina a month in advance. And in general, mid-to-late spring is the time when nature finally recovers from winter and you can fully enjoy the blooming landscapes, Provencal markets, quiet harbors and all this - without crowds of other yachtsmen and tourists.

Porquerolles - the gentle island of spring
It is impossible to sail from the coast of the southern resort of Hyères without stopping at the beautiful Porquerolles, the most famous of the Hyères Islands, also known as the "Golden Islands".
In spring, Porquerolles is covered in wild flowers, and the paths hidden in the shade of pine and eucalyptus trees invite at least a bike ride or two. A visit to the anchorage of Langoustiers, located on the western side of the island, is a must.
The anchorage offers excellent protection from the westerly winds and a beautiful view. Another anchorage for sailing yachts that is worth visiting is located near the Notre Dame Beach. It is well protected from the east and south winds, and the small marina allows you to have a hearty meal and have a nice time away from the crowds of tourists.
Don't miss: Fort Sainte-Agathe, tasting of wines produced on the island, Plage d'Argent.
Saint-Tropez - a living myth
Yes, Saint-Tropez is a city that you definitely need to visit in spring. At this time of year, the city probably reveals its most beautiful side. Without being suffocated by the influx of tourists, the old port offers a real sense of the rhythm of life here, and the small alleys truly “breathe”.
Saint-Tropez also makes a great base for exploring the surrounding headlands, anchorages, creeks and other interesting spots, including the beaches of Pampelonne, which have not yet become crowded with visitors.
Don't miss: morning coffee in the port, climbing the Citadel of Saint-Tropez, walks to the beach of Salins.
Cap Taya - Wildlife and Untouched Landscapes
Between Ramatuelle and La Croix-Valmer, south of Saint-Tropez, there is a hidden corner of paradise that many yachtsmen don't know about - and that's just as well! It's called Cape Thaya.
Accessible only by boat or along a coastal path, Taia offers one of the most magical anchorages in the region, protected by two cliffs and sandy beaches. In calm weather, it is the perfect place to spend the night at anchor or have lunch overlooking the turquoise waters. The cape provides safe shelter from northwest, west and south winds.
Don't miss: Scuba diving, pre-dawn hours surrounded by sea and rocks.
Sainte-Marguerite - the origins of Cannes
Just a stone's throw from Cannes is the island of Sainte-Marguerite, which many call nothing less than "a real wonder." The island has a large pine and eucalyptus forest, a small lake, many walking paths, and even a fort-museum dedicated to the Man in the Iron Mask.
On the east side of the island is the Visit anchorage, which provides good shelter from the westerly winds and a good night's sleep.
Don't miss: Maritime Museum, walk to the Pointe de la Convention observation deck, excursion to the seabed with scuba diving or snorkeling.
Villefranche-sur-Mer is a charming port on the outskirts of Nice
Villefranche-sur-Mer is notable for its deep, well-protected harbour. This geographical feature makes the town a popular destination for yachtsmen, but in spring the port regains its usual calm.
Villefranche-sur-Mer is known for its colourful facades, affordable seaside restaurants, and the surrounding area - particularly nearby Cap Ferrat - is ideal for walking and cycling.
Don't miss: a journey along the trails of Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, the Saint-Pierre chapel and fish freshly grilled over a fire.
Why the Cote d'Azur?
Yachting in the south of France in spring is not only the absence of a large number of tourists and other yachtsmen, but also excellent sailing conditions. At this time of year, the weather is usually quite mild, light winds are typical for spring in these places, and storms are rare.
In addition, the southern coast of France is dotted with ports, harbors and towns of varying sizes, which is a big bonus to the diversity of the trip. This proximity to civilization is perfect for novice yachtsmen or families with children.
Whether you are travelling on a sailing yacht, a catamaran or even a houseboat, these five destinations offer all the diversity of the Mediterranean – nature, historical heritage, a relaxed lifestyle and a sense of freedom.
