Whether you live on a yacht all year round or go out once a season, it would be nice to have a couple of cabin heaters on board. Interparus gives some tips on choosing a heater for a yacht!
Oil heaters - for those who live on a yacht
If the sea is more than just pleasant cruises for you, then oil heaters are the ideal choice for you. Being on board your favorite boat all year round, you will have to take care of the warmth and comfort in the cabins.
Oil heaters are good because they can maintain temperature for a long time. They are perfect for constant and long-term use. We have selected an example of an oil radiator that you can use as a guide when choosing your ideal oil heater for a yacht.
So, Dimplex Essentials DEOC20. Among the advantages of this model is a wide range of power settings. The maximum heater power is 2 kW, the average is 1200 W, and the minimum is 800 W. This model is also great for drying clothes.
Among the disadvantages of the Dimplex Essentials DEOC20, reviewers note that the heater takes quite a long time to warm up. However, this is a disease of all oil heaters. On the other hand, the Dimplex Essentials DEOC20 is quite bulky, so it is not suitable for yachts with a small or small salon.
More compact solutions – oil-free heaters
Although oil-free radiators can be the same dimensions as oil-based radiators, they are usually slightly smaller. Therefore, oil-free heaters can be classified as relatively compact heating devices for yachts.
Such radiators are an ideal option for those who do not live on a boat permanently, or who need heaters situationally. They will not take up much space, will be able to increase the temperature quickly enough and at the same time have a wide temperature range. On the other hand, unlike oil radiators, oil-free ones will lose temperature faster.
Another candidate worth considering is Dimplex OFRB7N. Compact, lightweight and convenient - an excellent option for a small cabin or salon. He is also good at drying things. On the other hand, such a small thing will not be enough for the interior of a yacht 12-15 meters long.
Fans and dryers
In addition to heaters in the classical sense, there are also so-called. “blowers” (aka fan heaters) or dryers. This can also be one of the heating options for your yacht. Some models of fan heaters are quite powerful and can compete with oil heaters. Thus, the De'Longhi HTF3033 model has a power of 3 kW.
One of the advantages of fan heaters is the speed of heating the room. Thanks to the speed and power of operation, you can surprisingly quickly “catch up” with the temperature in the cabin. However, there is also a minus - how quickly the interior heats up, it will also cool down just as quickly. To fully warm up the room, it is still better to use more classic oil heaters.
Another important thing to keep in mind when using a fan heater is that this type of heater will use the yacht's electrical grid at full capacity. Make sure your wiring is in good condition and ready to handle stress. Also, do not leave this heater unattended while it is operating. Cheap fan heaters have the unpleasant property of igniting at the most inopportune moment. Because of this, it is better not to save money on purchasing this type of heater.
