TEMO is gearing up for the commercial launch of its new Model 1000 outboard. Differences from previous models, specifics and specifications - read below for all the most interesting things about the new outboard.
Briefly about TEMO and TEMO 450
Contrary to popular belief, it is small but innovative enterprises that usually move the market forward. Sometimes they apply too radical solutions, but sometimes such decisions are appropriate. And even more than that, they are becoming a trend.
Such companies do not get tired of constantly experimenting with new form factors. Often new shapes and sizes offer significant advantages over conventional combustion outboards.
One such innovator is TEMO with its 450 and 1000 engines. The older model (450) is an ultra-light machine for small dinghies and tenders. One of its main features is the shape in the form of an "oar". At the same time, its "younger brother" (model 1000) is seriously different form factor.
TEMO 1000
TEMO 1000 is the latest model of the company. This is a larger motor with quite a lot of power. According to the company, the power of the TEMO 1000 is equivalent to that of a 3 hp outboard combustion engine. With temo, the 1000 really differs in shape from the 450.
Company director Justine Peroussel says: “We quickly realized that the tubular shape of the TEMO 450 is less suitable for sailboats. The propeller in this model comes out of the water too easily. At the same time, the transom of sailing yachts is usually incomparably higher than that of dinghies. This makes the original ergonomics of the 450 unsuitable. That is why we chose a more classic form. But, to be honest, we could not refuse to introduce a few of our ideas.”
Specifics of use and purpose
TEMO 1000 is designed as the main engine for tenders and as an auxiliary propulsion for sailing yachts up to 8 meters in length. Among the new solutions from TEMO, a thin transom bracket was noted. It will allow you to adjust the height of the mover so that it is convenient to use it on a boat with any transom.
This eliminates the need for long and short shaft versions. On the other hand, if you have a smaller boat, then you no longer need two separate outboard propulsion units. It is enough to simply rearrange from the tender to the boat and vice versa.
There is also a retractable tiller handle. It can be carefully removed if the engine is installed as an auxiliary propulsion unit. If you moved to the tender, then the handle can be easily and naturally obtained.
The device is very light. TEMO 1000 weighs only 10 kg with the 5 kg internal battery removed. This makes it much easier to transport. The 740 Wh lithium-ion battery provides a range of 45 minutes at full speed. At cruising speed, the mover should last up to an hour.
Pre-order for TEMO 1000 is already open. But it is worth noting that full-scale production has not yet begun. The first commercial models will only be delivered in February 2023.
