Portuguese architect Pedro Ramalho proposed an original concept for a completely sustainable yacht that combines sails with the energy of the sun
The concept of an energetically autonomous yacht, which the author of the project, the architect from Porto Pedro Ramalho, called "P1", is to use only wind and solar energy. The costly and polluting diesel or gasoline engines are now a thing of the past.
"P1" is 55 feet (17 meters) long.

In this case, the author proposes a transformer yacht project. The idea is to use the most efficient source of energy for driving - the wind or the sun, depending on the weather conditions.
The mast, keel and rudder "P1" are retractable. When folded, the yacht is an energy efficient solar powered boat.
The mast with sails extends according to the principle of an articulated triangle with a sliding top. Spin sails.
With the mast, keel and rudder extended, the P1 transforms into a fully equipped sailing yacht.

This project opens up completely new opportunities for traveling around the world.
As for technical characteristics, solar panels with an area of 60 square meters can generate up to 15 kW / h. This amount of energy can power the electric motor and charge the batteries. And ideally it can also be used for coastal and port shipping.

When weather conditions permit, it is possible to sail on "P1". After all, the source of solar energy does not replenish its reserves around the clock, but is limited by daylight hours and clear weather.
The lifting of the mainsail and the staysail is fully automated, allowing the P1 to sail long distances like a regular sailing yacht.
On both sides there are places ("pits") for control and rest.
Inside the yacht there are 3 cabins and a spacious saloon in the center.

The yacht has a dinghy, which, when attached, forms an extension of the deck.
