Some bays are located very close to ancient historical sites, allowing sailors to climb the ruins of the Roman Empire, and even earlier. In Ruin Bay we dropped anchor next to the partially submerged structure of the ruins of a Turkish hamam, which according to legend was visited by Cleopatra. We explored this amazing place with snorkels and masks, and then went to the ruins of the port of the Ottoman Empire.
In Tomb Bay many crypts carved into stone high on the cliff, each with an imposing façade. Carian and Lycian rock tombs rise above the picturesque and mysterious bay. The ancient city of Karya can still be seen against the backdrop of olive and oleander trees.
Small boats come here throughout the day, offering local products and goodies. A fresh batch of hot baked goods arrives at breakfast. Then, ice cream before lunch, and then pancakes with cheese and herbs. Each of them is made to order. And in the late afternoon, local fishermen will show you their catch so that you can buy and cook your own fresh seafood dinner.

If cooking isn't for you, head to Fethiye, the largest port in the area. The market will surprise you with local crafts and products of every shape and size. Fishing boats also come to the embankment here to sell their daily catch. It is very interesting to interact with the locals as they crowd around these shops. Cameras click, children squeal with delight, and cats spin underfoot, expecting that they too will get a small fish.
In Turkey, tradition and flavor are important ingredients when it comes to food, and fresh fish is among the culinary delights. We bought octopus, sea bream and perch and brought them to a local named Mustafa, whose market bench was equipped with tables and chairs under umbrellas. While we were sipping on local Efes beer, Mustafa had already prepared dinner for us. He served the dishes simply deliciously decorated, with huge wedges of local lemons and a basket of fragrant fresh bread. It was one of those moments of simplicity and perfection that will stay with you forever!
