Lago 26 Speedster: cutting-edge day-sailer

New version of an old boat

Perhaps one of the most remarkable features of the Lago 26 Speedster is the fact that the daysailer belongs to a whole family of boats under the general name Lago 26. They are manufactured by the Austrian company Championship Yachting and more than 50 boats have already been sold.

The Lago 26 family includes different yachts: a sports version with a lifting keel, a small dinghy, and even a foil version! The founder of the brand, Hans Spitzauer, decided not to stop there. That is why the new boat in the series is the daysailer.

This model was called Speedster and for good reason - despite the fact that in essence it is a classic “day boat”, during production the most modern technologies used in racing yachts were used. The Lago 26 Speedster will hit the market in September-October 2024. The first building is already in the final stages of construction and is preparing for launching.

The overall design of the case is reminiscent of the model's sporting roots. Strict and straight lines look catchy and impressive. There is a fixed bowsprit at the front for a full gennaker or code 0. A similar feature is found on other versions of the Lago 26 – Sword, Keel, Foil.

The mast and keel have been moved closer to the bow of the daysailer to improve performance. There are no backstays or backstays; the mast is supported solely by the shrouds and forestay. This solution improves access from the stern. By the way, about the stern - like any other daysailer, the Lago 26 does not have a steering wheel, only a convenient tiller.

There are no frills on the cockpit, only benches for the skipper smoothly transitioning into the side ruts of the upper part of the deck. An automatic jib is assumed.

Technical features of Lago 26 Speedster

Another advantage of the new boat will be its modest weight. Due to the use of carbon fiber, the actual weight of the boat is only about 720 kilograms with a length of almost 9(!) meters. Thanks to this, the Lago 26 can be quickly transported on a special trailer. The lifting keel and removable rudder also make transport easier.

Below deck, Lago 26 offers a small cabin for two people. The conditions, according to insiders, are modest, but not Spartan. Reviewers from the eminent publications Yachting World and Yacht.de say that you can spend a weekend on board the Lago 26. We will check the validity of this statement after the release of the first buildings.

Championship Yachting supports the greening of the industry, so the Lago 26 is equipped with a small electric motor with a folding propeller. The declared power of the electric motor is 3 kW.

Results and technical characteristics of Lago 26 Speedster

Overall, the Lago 26 Speedster looks like a modern solution for short or solo sailing trips. There is nothing superfluous in it - however, like many amenities, without which modern yachts are unthinkable.

Judging by the presented concepts and first details, the boat is well optimized for solo sailing. As stated in the shipyard's press release, all controls will be located directly in the cockpit.
