We are used to watching metal expedition yachts with delight, but Hutting Yachts has decided to conquer the cruising sector as well. Interparus shares details about the new product.
Aluminum cruiser dream
The Dutch shipyard Hutting Yachts is known for its serious approach to cruising yachts and its reverent attitude towards expedition yachts. The shipyard's new yacht was conceived as a transitional link between a classic cruiser and a boat capable of conquering the most remote corners of our planet.
The Hutting 46 Explorer is positioned as an elegant solution for long-distance cruising with a classic hull style. The yacht's hull and exterior were designed by Van Oossanen architects, renowned for their expertise in hydrodynamics and sailing yacht design. The inspiration for the project was drawn from modern racing sailing yachts.
Nils Merke of Van Oossanen shares: “For us engineers, sailors and scientists, it is important to bridge the gap between rugged aluminum boats and aesthetically pleasing cruisers that lack safety. Our goal was to find the optimal combination of safety, comfort and driving performance."
Technical features of Hutting 46
The 13-meter Hutting 46 boat is characterized by a significant displacement - as much as 14.5 tons. The hull has an impressive underwater part and, when viewed from the front, shows a sharp V-shape. According to Merke, this design makes it possible to more effectively cope with waves and reduce pitching.
Two keel options to choose from
The owner has two keel options to choose from, both with a hefty lead bulb at the end. Interestingly, both keels are designed to provide similar performance. According to the shipyard, the choice of keel type has minimal impact on the performance of the yacht.
The shallow water keel (1.9 m) is equipped with winglets to improve the yacht's stability. The deep keel (2.4 m), without winglets, provides similar stability due to its greater length.
Deck and yacht controls
There are no innovations on the Hutting 46's deck, which includes standard features for a yacht of this size, such as a single helm, four sail winches and a sprayhood positioned amidships.
The transom is not folding, there is no swim platform, but there is a convenient ladder for getting into the water. The cockpit is spacious, allowing the crew to sit comfortably on either side of the helm.
Hutting 46 interior
The interior layout of Hutting 46 can be customized according to the owner's requests. The standard configuration includes two cabins: the master cabin is located in the bow, and the second cabin with two beds is located towards the stern.
The master cabin has direct access to a private bathroom and separate shower. The second combined bathroom is located almost amidships. In the salon, which is also located amidships, there is a sofa on the starboard side, and a tea table with an L-shaped sofa on the port side. The galley is also on the port side.
