The iYacht studio has developed a unique concept - a catamaran made from already used materials. Interparus will tell you how this idea was realized.
Mastermind of Hu'chu 55
The idea of creating a catamaran from recycled materials came to the mind of the German actor Daniel Roesner. As Resner himself says: “I am not an engineer or a scientist. I am a person who is truly in love with the sea and the planet I live on.”
Daniel wanted to get a catamaran that would be as environmentally friendly and multifunctional as possible: he dreamed of a base for recreation, filming and active sailing. To realize his dream, the actor hired iYacht to design and build a catamaran.
Udo Hafner, CEO of iYacht, comments: “Daniel had a very ambitious vision and we helped him bring this project to life.” The unusual name of the catamaran “Hu'chu” combines two words: “Hu” is an abbreviation for the name of the Hunsrück mountain range in Germany, and “Chu” refers to the place north of Malibu where the actor, according to him, fell in love with the ocean, surfing and yachting.
Eco-friendly catamaran Hu'chu 55
The main guideline when creating the Hu'chu 55 was environmental friendliness not only of operation (that is, no emissions), but also of production. The actor wanted the environmental impact to be minimal at all stages of construction.
The catamaran's hull will be made from recycled aluminum, which will be extracted from license plates, old cans and other metal trash. Thanks to collaboration with aluminum smelters, it was possible to secure sufficient amounts of recycled aluminum, which iYacht claims has a lower carbon footprint than conventional aluminum. Recycled wood and cork materials are also used in construction.
Environmental aspects are not limited to housing materials. On board the Hu'chu 55 will be installed two powerful electric motors and a high-capacity battery. Solar panels are located at the bottom of the sail and on the deckhouse roof, providing additional energy.
In addition, the catamaran has a hydrogeneration system that allows it to independently generate clean electricity. According to Robb Report, Hu'chu 55 will even have a small greenhouse on board where you can grow vegetables while sailing.
Technical features and future plans
According to iYacht, the Hu'chu 55 will have good performance and excellent handling. The catamaran will be able to compete on equal terms with expedition yachts due to its reinforced aluminum hull. This will allow the owner to go to the most extreme places on the planet - from the snowy Arctic expanses to the hot tropics.
All controls are located at the helmsman's post. Due to this, Hu'chu 55 can be operated by just one person. Daniel Resner plans to make several large expeditions on board his brainchild and “go around the whole world.” He adds: “I have a large circle of friends, including divers, scientists and underwater filmmakers. I would like to collaborate with them on new projects where I could use the Hu'chu 55.”
iYacht is currently searching for a shipyard with the necessary aluminum experience to implement the Hu'chu 55 project.
