Ferrari is a legendary automobile brand that is about to break into the world of big yachting. Interparus will tell you about the Hypersail foiler and how it is connected to the automobile concern.
Unusual Ferrari
Right now, in the small Italian town of Maranello, where the headquarters of the Ferrari factory is located, work is in full swing. The company's best engineers are working on an unusual and previously unseen Ferrari: a whole 30 meters long, two steering wheels, more than 8 passengers and the ability to... Fly!

It is clear that by steering wheels we mean steering wheels, the future car will fly on hydrofoils, and the passengers will be not just ordinary ones - real racers, albeit sailing ones. So why would Ferrari open up the world of sports yachting?
Hypersail is the automaker's first attempt to enter the world of regattas. The foiler was first discussed last summer, when the concept was presented. At that time, representatives of the Italian and foreign press gathered for the premiere, and the following interesting guests were present at the event:
- John Elkan is the president of Ferrari,
- Giovanni Soldini is a solo yachtsman from Italy and, as it turned out, the leader of the Hypersail development team,
- Matteo Landzavecchia is the head of the vehicle design department and another leader of the Hypersail project,
- Marco Ribigini is the project's lead engineer.
The news of conquering the seas was received with interest, but the most interesting was yet to come. When asked why Ferrari chose sailing as a new niche, John Elkan explained: “Because we couldn’t not do it. If you look at what drives our company, you realize that it is passion and competence in the service of the impossible. And that is what yachting is about.” And Elkan is absolutely right.

Many car brands have some connection to regatta teams, but Ferrari has remained on the sidelines until now.
Ferrari's Racing Heritage
Hypersail is positioned by the head of the company as a challenge that will expand the boundaries of perception and technological horizons. The new foiler should become a proud successor to the Ferrari tradition. According to the team, the main reference point was the Ferrari hypercar, which has won the 24 Hours of Le Mans race for three years in a row.

The company adds that the new project will expand Ferrari’s racing DNA. There is some truth in this – long sea and ocean regattas are the ultimate endurance sport. There are no pit stops or a team of engineers to change tires or help. At sea, all hope is in the boat and your skills. “Endurance has been part of our brand’s DNA since the day our founding father, Enzo Ferrari, created this company,” adds Elkan.
Technical features of Hypersail
The yacht is designed by the legendary French architect Guillaume Verdier. The foiler should be about 30 meters long, monohull. Hypersail will stabilize its "flight" on three support points, namely two hydrofoils (the first point), an inclined keel (the second point) and a rudder (the third point).

The creators also emphasize energy. Thus, according to the company, Hypersail will be the first 30-meter foil yacht that will be completely energy independent. In addition, there will be no internal combustion engine on board.
Of the truly interesting features, the Hypersail stabilization and flight control system was developed by Ferrari engineers, taking into account the experience gained in the automotive industry. Naturally, marine experts in aerodynamics and strength of materials were also involved.

During the development of the yacht, Ferrari also gained invaluable experience that can actually be measured – from the concept to the construction of the yacht, nine patents were registered. Three have already been officially registered, and six more are in preparation. Ferrari says that the technologies used could also appear in the world of sports cars.
