The long chain of the Dodecanese islands, 12 in total, is located in the eastern part of the Aegean Sea, off the coast of Turkey. The islands are very popular with yachtsmen and most agree that Arki is the most northerly in the chain - something really special.
Arches - a very small island, it can be crossed in an hour on foot, it is practically deserted, with a population of only 40 people. However, it also boasts three excellent taverns and two more on the neighboring island. Marathos, but the real reason for its great popularity is the picturesque beauty of the wild nature and the incredible peace that it gives its guests.
The only harbor on the island is Port Augustawell protected from the north wind Meltemi, in which there is enough space to moor about a dozen boats to the pier. Ferries between the islands dock at the entrance from the outside of the bay. Behind the cape to the south is Port Stretto, where you can get up on one of the four mooring, belonging to the tavern or in the center of the bay, securing the ends on the shore. Both bays are open to southwestern winds. There are still mooring on Marathosalso belong to taverns.

Port Augusta, Patmos and Lipsi - Traditional mooring sites are at most, but this group of islands abounds in anchorage sites, where you have a much better chance of seeing wildlife and enjoying incredibly clear water. Most of them are located between two small islets south of Arches.
The largest of these small islets Makronisi southeast of the Arch, allows you to anchor on both the south and northwest sides. Between Chiliomodi, Tsouka and Piato the passage is deep, there is a ferry on it Agathonisiand between Makronisi and Tsuka the depth is 4 meters, so you need to be careful.
In the north-east Arches there are at least two good parking spots if the incoming wave allows. On both sides of the island Kumaro (Nisis Koumaro) many shallows, and beaches where you can anchor. Village bay Kapsalomenos, marked as suitable only for small boats, but we easily found a place for an anchor with a depth of 3-4 meters, if you stay overnight, it is better to lead the end to the shore, since it is quite narrow. This part of the island is actively used for agriculture, but still remains beautiful.

Arches and nearby islands received the status of a wildlife sanctuary of the northern Dodecane... It is forbidden to hunt any animals here. As a result of this, the number of living birds has increased significantly. Hikers can watch birds from close range like nowhere else in Aegean sea.

Interparus in touch! We came across an interesting example of an outboard motor - its main feature is the absence of a propeller. It would seem that it is a classic rim mover, but with interesting body kits. But everything is not so simple, let's consider it in more detail.
