A charter firm will send people into space, Scubajet showed a hybrid smart surfboard, and the French came up with a water purifier - the latest yachting news.
Charter company merges with Space Perspective
The title is completely true. Charter company Northrop & Johnson announced that new collaborations with Space Perspective will be announced in the near future. You may have heard about Space Perspective before - this is the only company that will soon begin mass space travel.
The launch of “space tourism” is planned as early as 2024. So far, over 1,000 tickets have been sold. Many are familiar with the outlines of the Space Perspective spacecraft - the spherical Neptune. It is driven by a huge ball (SpaceBalloon). A “cruise” on such a vessel will last six hours at a speed of about 20 km/h. In the process, space tourists will be able to enjoy cocktails, “space” gastronomic delights, as well as stable Wi-Fi in order to be able to broadcast their journey live.
And what about Northrop & Johnson? We were also concerned about this issue. As it turns out, Northrop & Johnson will likely be the first charter firm to go beyond the seas and oceans. Daniel Zyriakus, president of Northrop & Johnson, says: “The new collaboration will allow us to expand our list of available charter destinations to the next frontier – space.”
Charter company Northrop & Johnson has booked two flights of the Neptune spacecraft, with a total of 16 seats. These seats are booked for Space Perspective Phase 2 flights starting in 2025.
Interestingly, Northrop & Johnson is one of the oldest charter firms, operating since 1949. Since then, the company has been offering the sale and purchase of yachts for charter. Let's see how the space charter will be implemented.
Hybridboard - a smart hydrofoil hybrid board
Do you like to surf and breathe unevenly towards foiling? The Australian company Scubajet has found a solution to your problem. No more choosing between a surfboard or a foil!
Scubajet manufactures jet systems for various water sports. Just the other day, the company presented its Performance Series Hybridboard. The board can raise and lower the wing, instantly turning into a foil, then back to the board.
The device is made of carbon fiber. The board is 173 centimeters long and 63 wide. On the "board" there are two batteries with a capacity of 1.7 kilowatt-hours. These batteries will provide 40 minutes of non-stop surfing on a single charge!
You can control the board and its transformation either through a special device from Scubajet, or through the Apple Watch Ultra. The speed of the board will be 31 mph in hydrofoil mode and 28 mph in surf mode. The board is so smart that it has a whole cruise control system to help you maintain a fixed speed.
Now the smart hybrid board is available for pre-order and will cost a tidy sum - $ 17,200. Shipping is expected in May-June.
Osmosun - autonomous water makers for marinas and ports
Mascara NT, based in Chartres, France, has developed Osmosun's off-grid desalination plants. Now the company is in the process of concluding contracts with marinas, where it is planned to install the system.
One of the main features of the installation is that it works only on solar energy without the use of batteries. Thanks to this, the unit is able to (automatically) regulate and adjust the production of fresh water throughout the day.
Osmosun is also equipped with an energy recovery system. This technology makes it possible to return unused energy back to technological processes, which reduces electricity consumption. Thus, Osmosun limits consumption to 2.5-3 kWh/m3.
Still, the company left a gap for more conservative customers who are not ready for such a radical transition to solar energy. For all those who suffer, there is an opportunity to power Osmosun from the mains. In this case, the installation will operate in a hybrid mode - to combine power from the coastline with solar energy.
