The IBEX 2024 exhibition has ended, where, among other things, the yachting innovation award was presented. Interparus will tell you about the most interesting innovations in the industry.
In a nutshell about the IBEX exhibition
IBEX is an international yacht and shipbuilding exhibition. Traditionally, the event takes place in Tampa, USA. For residents of the American continent, IBEX is something like the exhibition in Dusseldorf for Europeans, only on a smaller scale.

At IBEX you can find not only yachts of all colors and sizes, but also separate stands of technology companies and startups. And although this year the exhibition was overshadowed by two hurricanes in a row, they did not become an obstacle to the demonstration of the most interesting technical innovations of the yachting industry.
The IBEX Innovation Awards are regularly held as part of the exhibition. In 2024, more than 80 applications were submitted, 18 of which received their nominations and 13 received awards. Among all this scattering of interesting projects, we have selected several of the most interesting ones. Let's go through the nominations!
Boat Maintenance
In this category, the judges awarded the victory to two nominees at once. The first winner was CMP Group Ltd., which presented the SMartyp SCP case corrosion protection system. The system is not only more environmentally friendly than its predecessors, but is also powered by solar panels. In simple terms, the system consists of an anode and a cathode and prevents galvanic corrosion of the case. The device regulates its functionality itself, is controlled from a smartphone and is charged by the sun.

The second winner was CLiX with its fuel spill prevention device. The product was designed for use in marine environments and features systems that can monitor fuel leaks to stop leaks of hazardous liquids.
We build yachts in an environmentally friendly way!
In the nomination “Yacht Construction Methods and Materials,” the undisputed winner was the startup Supersede with its Marine Board technology. We talked about the new product in detail In this article.

To avoid repetition, here is just Judge Charles Doane's assessment: "This is an ingenious product that is designed to replace conventional plywood in boat building. [Marine Board] is rot-resistant, competitively priced, and more versatile than plywood. A major step forward."
Everything can be automated
The winner in the Deck Hardware and Accessories category was Commercial Sewing for their automatic electric… bimini! The device must be placed on a special stand and voila – the bimini will open itself at the touch of a button and protect you from the scorching rays of the sun.

According to the company, you can adjust the geometry and dimensions of the bimini yourself. The judges were delighted with the new product: "This is a new stage in the evolution of electric awnings with an innovative design, automatic opening and closing, as well as simplicity that has never been seen before."
Simplifying cable management
In the Electrical Systems category, the winner was Egis Mobile Electric for the XD Series Flex N2K Remote High Amp Relay. In simple terms, the device can be described as a hardware console for managing electricity on boats of any size.

And although the exhibition focused on using the device on large yachts, the manufacturer assures that the system will also find application on small boats. The Series Flex N2K Remote High Amp Relay system operates under the NMEA 2000 protocol and is compatible with any devices that support this protocol.
Electronics drives industry forward
The OEM Electronics category featured some interesting new products. Tocaru Blue presented the Proteus Hub, another device that connects all onboard electronic devices into one network and displays all parameters on one screen.

Syntec Industries received an honorable mention for the Gussi Italia PowerHub 2.0. The device is a wireless power supply system for steering wheels. It works on the basis of electromagnetic induction, which allows the transfer of electrical energy between the stationary and rotating parts of the steering wheel without the use of wires.
New outboard engines
The IBEX judges did not ignore new outboard engines. Thus, the winner of the eponymous nomination was Honda Marine with its Honda BF350 V-8. The engine is notable for being the first serial Honda outboard engine that runs on a V-8.

Judges noted the balanced crankshaft, the expanded functionality compared to previous Honda models, and the liquid cooling system.
Listen to the broadcast
In the Security Equipment category, the well-deserved winner was Banshee Marine Audio. The company presented the Banshee VA1 device at the exhibition. Like the mythical banshee after which the device was named, the Banshee VA1 will make your radio "scream".

Judge Armstrong says, “The Banshee VA1 not only amplifies the signal, but has additional options for filtering out background noise, which will also have a positive effect on the quality of the output signal.” The device is, in essence, an additional speaker for the VHF station, which will allow you to better hear all the broadcasts on the air.
