METSTRADE 2023 brought a whole host of new products to the market. Among them is the new sMRT Alert emergency beacon. Interparus shares the first details!
A new approach to creating emergency beacons
At the last METSTRADE 2023 exhibition, Wescom Group presented its new product - the sMRT Alert emergency beacon. According to a press release, the new beacon facilitates localized searches for missing persons and is extremely easy to install and use.

sMRT Alert uses signal digitization technology for improved interoperability with global AIS, GPS and DSC systems. In the event that a person falls overboard and the emergency beacon is activated, the location of the beacon begins to be instantly tracked using the aforementioned AIS. In addition, an alert is immediately issued via DSC to notify ships passing nearby of the critical situation.

The use of modern technology to ensure the safety of shipping and yachting was highly praised at the exhibition and sMRT Alert even received a special mention in the Personal Equipment category.
Technical features of sMRT Alert
Among the main qualities of an emergency beacon, I would like to highlight ease of use. sMRT Alert uses a special clamping mechanism to secure the beacon housing to any manufacturer's lifejacket. The clamping mechanism allows you to securely fasten the beacon without any special adjustment.
Other technical delights include connecting the beacon to a smartphone. You can initialize the beacon using the NFC module on your phone. Using the application, you can view information about the battery charge, find out a list of signals and faults, study usage logs, etc.
The sMRT Alert's battery capacity is sufficient to provide continuous, simultaneous VHF-DSC and GPS signals for over 12 hours. The device also has two activation options - manual and automatic. In the case of automatic activation, the beacon will begin to issue a distress signal immediately after a person is immersed in water. Thus, even if a person is incapacitated for some reason, a signal about his location will be transmitted automatically.
