CYC yachtsmen were bored for only a week on self-isolation, and then they returned to duty ... To the online regatta!
Rear admiral Alastair Jenkin organized a virtual regatta by posting a notification about the races and instructions with the rules of participation on the Internet. The first competition was attended by 8 riders, but it is possible that there will be more of them further. There were 6 races in the series, each with its own class of yacht, including the J70, Nacras and 49th.
As it turned out, it is not so easy to participate in online races, because you have to walk only “by instruments”. At first, the riders made even elementary mistakes - for example, they put a spinnaker at full courses. But already at the end they got used to the new conditions enough and some yachts came to the finish line with a gap of only about 0.2 seconds.
It is not surprising that Alastair became the winner of the regatta, with an absolute advantage in all races. And it showed that hands-on experience is just as important in virtual racing as it is in the real world. Second place went to Katie Day with impressive results, third to Chester Benton and fourth to Chris Grosscourt. He walked well, but in the medal race he got the worst result and double points spoiled his picture.
The regatta was carried out on the basis of the Virtual Regatta Inshore.
