Candela continues to develop its C-8 range of foilers - this time with the automotive company Polestar! Preview of the new Candela C-8 Polestar edition from Interparus
Development of Candela C-8 ideas and collaborations
Candela is committed to building sustainable electric boats. Today, the company's flagship model is the Candela C-8, an electric powered foiler. The shipyard recently unveiled an update to its most popular boat, the Polestar.
In fact, the name for the updated version of the C-8 doesn't just refer to the model's new body color. The boat is the result of a collaboration between Candela and the Swedish automaker Polestar.
The collaboration between the two companies goes beyond a simple design change. Together with the automaker, Candela has added some interesting ideas for an updated version of its foiler.
Designed by Candela Polestar Edition
Let's start with design. Now the C-8 will have not only a new paint job – a strict light gray color that fits perfectly with the graceful lines of the original model. Candela designers have also collaborated with Polestar to create a new interior design for the boat.
The seat upholstery is modeled after the Polestar machines, and a special durable fabric was used for the cushions and sofa. Reviewers note that the Candela C-8 received a major design update to the helmsman's post. In terms of functionality, everything remains the same.
Other design solutions include a new color for the hydrofoils. Now the wings will be painted in the color of "Swedish gold".
Long cooperation and innovation
Even before it became known about the official cooperation within the framework of the Polestar edition project, the automaker supplied its batteries and chargers to Candela. Like the other Candela C-8s, the C-8 Polestar will have the battery and charging equipment from Polestar 2.
Recall that it was thanks to these batteries that Candela was previously able to create such a successful product as the C-8 model. The battery has a capacity of 69 kWh with a range of 57 nautical miles at a cruising speed of 22 knots.
This speed sets all C-8 models, including the C-8 Polestar, apart from other competitors on the market. In addition, hydrofoils help to develop more speed with less energy.
Unlike the batteries, the engine received a decent upgrade. The C-8 Polestar will use the familiar Candela C-POD with an increased output of 75kW (the standard C-POD has 50kW). Also, the AI responsible for the operation of hydrofoils has undergone an improvement. The helm station has a 15.4-inch touch screen with a navigation system from Candela.
The C-8 Polestar has a small cabin that can accommodate two adults and two children. The control post is located in the cockpit and, in addition to the skipper, there are seats for seven people in the cockpit. At the stern there is a double sunbed.
The cost of a new motor foiler will be more than decent - 450,000 US dollars. The boat will be built at the Candela shipyard in Stockholm. First deliveries are expected in June 2024.
