Philippe Briand and Jeanneau shipyard have announced their latest development, the 44ft Sun Odyssey 440 cruising yacht.
For those who might think that all design possibilities for cruising yachts have been explored, Sun odyssey promises a few surprises. The designer managed to find three new ways that, according to Jeanneau, will make life on board the yacht easier and more convenient for owners and guests.
The hull is inspired by commercial boats with rectangular shapes that have square front sections. This provides a traverse towards the bow of the yacht. As a result, the salon Sun Odyssey 440 very spacious, which is usually lacking in boats in this size range. Although the recently launched aluminum yacht Allures 45.9 also well designed to maximize living space, and ample storage space if you're going on a long trip.
“Space has become very limited aft as the owners expect a lot of functionality here, so I was looking for a solution to increase space in the bow without losing performance,” explained Philippe briand.
Secondly, due to the absence of barriers between cockpit and deck, and the easy slope of the deck to the stern, movement on board by means of steps limits unnecessary obstacles and helps to increase the safety of guests.
But perhaps the most interesting feature is the patented transformer backrest for cockpit seating. This provides protection inside the cockpit as well as a raised helmsman's vantage point. It can be rotated 90 degrees from vertical to horizontal.

The cockpit also features a fold-out table with a hidden portable refrigerator built into the cockpit, providing a comfortable dining space. This refrigerator can be used for going ashore along with a portable BBQ that fits under the helmsman's seat next to the cockpit sink. The goal of the designers was to create an affordable small, ergonomic yacht, simplifying almost everything, putting comfort and practicality at the fore.
