Garmin has pleased all yachting enthusiasts with new smart watches. Interparus will tell you about the features of the Garmin Quatix 8 yacht watch.
Garmin continues to expand its line of products for yachtsmen. The new product is the Garmin Quatix 8 smartwatch, created for yachtsmen who prefer reliability and quality. The model is an addition to the line focused on yachting and the sea. Some reviewers even called the Garmin Quatix 8 "the smartest watch for yachtsmen."
Garmin Quatix 8 Key Features
When OpenAI (aka ChatGPT) founder Sam Altman said that interfaces and computers as we know them would become a thing of the past, many smiled and went to work on their old devices. Apparently, Sam knew something, because literally a few weeks after his announcement, Garmin came on stage and said: “Our new Garmin Quatix 8 watch will have full voice control.”

Yes, the main features on which the advertising campaign for the new Garmin smartwatch is built are voice input and a speaker. For us, yachtsmen, this may seem like something insignificant, but let's take a closer look at Garmin's idea.
The main concept that guided the developers of Garmin Quatix 8 is simplified control. Thus, according to the engineers' idea, a yachtsman will connect his watch to a chartplotter and, using voice commands, will be able to mark route points or control individual functions of various devices on board. The idea is good - remembering a few voice commands is easier than rummaging through the MFD settings while fighting a squall.
In addition, according to Garmin, the watch will now be able to receive commands from the helm via Bluetooth and even handle phone calls - provided the watch is paired with a smartphone.
Two versions of Garmin Quatix 8
There are two versions of the watch to choose from - 47 mm and 51 mm with a 1.4-inch screen. The versions are identical, equipped with the same AMOLED display and differ only in size. Garmin Quatix 8 is designed for diving to a depth of 40 meters.

The case is sealed, the buttons are equipped with additional protection from moisture. The screen glass is sapphire - like the cameras of the new iPhones - so there is no need to worry about scratches. The flashlight on the watch will now have an additional "Red Light" mode for convenient work at night. The declared characteristics of Garmin Quatix 8 notify about 16 hours of battery life for the smaller version and 29 hours for the 51 mm version.
Interaction with other devices
Like its predecessors, Quatix 8 offers advanced capabilities when working with other Garmin products. Thus, the smartwatch can serve as a remote control for chartplotters, stereo systems and other gadgets from the same company. Naturally, data from radars, fish finders and other Garmin products will also be easily pulled up to Quatix 8.
To get the most out of the watch in terms of functionality, you will have to have MFD and Garmin chartplotters on board. Unfortunately, with devices from other manufacturers, the Garmin Quatix 8 will work as a regular sports smart.
Other Features of Garmin Quatix 8
In addition to voice control, Garmin Quatix 8 can offer familiar features - communication with the application via phone, GPS tracking, working with maps.

The watch also retains other familiar features of previous Quatix series models:
- tracking health indicators, sleep, activity,
- virtual starting line, regatta timer and countdown function,
- Multi-frequency GPS and profiles for running, cycling, skiing, golf and diving,
- Garmin Pay, 2,000 tracks Spotify/Amazon music and smart notifications,
- Safety & Tracking: LiveTrack and sending SOS coordinates via phone.
Overall, this is a classic gentleman's set for a Garmin watch.
Together with the conclusions
Garmin Quatix 8 brought two things globally - speakers and voice control. Otherwise, it is the same smartwatch from Garmin, with all their advantages and disadvantages. Quatix 8 will be a great help for sailors and yachtsmen who:
- have been using watches from this company for several years and want to upgrade,
- use other products from the company, such as chartplotters.
In the first case, the buyer will receive a familiar system with updated functions, and in the second case, he will fully reveal the potential of these watches and voice commands. At the same time, the watch is priced at $1199, so those yachtsmen who are really going to use the device to the maximum should take a closer look at it. Otherwise, it is better to pay attention to more universal models.
