The new Leopard 45 sailing catamaran debuted last fall at the Sailboat Show in Annapolis, Maryland, USA. Cruise model designed by architect Alex Simonis and Voogd Yacht Design for Sunsail, The Moorings and Leopard Catamarans. The interior and exterior are designed by the South African design team Robertson and Caine.
New 45ft Leopard 45 cruising catamaran
The exterior of the yacht has evolved from a more rounded deck shape to a sharper angular look. The hulls have excellent entry points and are relatively narrow below the waterline for better performance, then widen to increase interior space.
A new sleek hardtop has been developed, which is lengthened from the aft to the bow cockpit, as well as increased the space of the cockpit and aft. The entire boat is visible from the stern, thanks to a clear polycarbonate wall at the end of the cabin, which includes a waterproof doorway leading to a second cockpit at the bow. In general, a lot of natural light comes inside, there is a large porthole in the deckhouse roof, and in the cabins below, there are long hull portholes and opening hatches overhead. For this Alex Simonis replaced the bow and stern bulkheads on the deck bridge with a fiberglass and stainless steel grating. This allowed him not only to replace the solid panels with windows, but also to move the mast aft, creating a more balanced sail plan. Also Leopard 45 is unique in that it offers a variety of charter equipment and the open-plan saloon and galley are very ergonomic.
Complete 45ft Leopard 45 cruising catamaran sells for about $ 580,000, depending on the configuration, which seems a bit high compared to the competition.
Robertson and Caine shipyard producing Leopards belongs to the largest charter companies Moorings and Sunsail, respectively, 90% of these catamarans will go to their fleets under these names. This also leaves an imprint on the interior of the catamaran, where natural wood veneer is not used. The Leopard-45 displacement is 14.5 tons, which is almost 4 tons higher than the best indicator in the catamaran class. Helia-44 Evolution.
Leopard 45 provides a stylish new design, a sensible and practical layout, comfort focused on charter crews, as well as the most innovative technologies and more space for relaxation and entertainment. Thanks to this, the catamaran has already won the title of the best charter yacht of 2017 according to Cruising World Boat of the Year.
