The industry is waiting for METSTRADE 2022, the yacht of the Russian oligarch will still be allowed into South Africa, and the consequences of Hurricane Ian are still not eliminated - we will talk about this in our traditional news digest from Interparus.
Looking forward to METSTRADE 2022
The world's largest exhibition of marine equipment, materials and the latest systems will open its doors very soon. The Amsterdam RAI Conference Center is gearing up for the 34th METSTRADE on November 15-17! Thousands of maritime industry professionals are already at a low start - there are three days of an important event ahead, which will set the vector for the development of the industry for the next year.
METSTRADE Director Niels Clarenbeek says: “We are counting down the days until METSTRADE opens its doors again. More than 1,400 exhibitors from 50 countries will present the latest innovations in the maritime and leisure industry. This year we are waiting for at least 10 halls of the RAI exhibition center occupied by the exhibition.
Our entire team is working tirelessly to make the exhibition even better than before. In fact, not only we are worried - the entire industry is with us. We are waiting for a large number of shipyards, sellers, designers and architects, marina builders... Every professional associated with the sea will find something for himself here. I can’t believe that the exhibition is about to open again!”
The general vector of many exhibitions this year is the focus on the environment and the solution of environmental problems, as well as new technologies, skills development.
It can be said without too much modesty that METSTRADE 2022 will lead the avant-garde of exhibitions that raise important topics and one of the few who will offer real solutions. Among the already announced events is the performance of Corey Combs.
Corey is the co-founder of Ampaire. It is a startup developing next-generation hybrid-electric aircraft. According to insiders, in his speech, Corey will have to touch on the topic of combining the aerospace and marine industries to solve environmental problems.
And that's just the flowers! There will be many interesting things at the exhibition. We are especially interested in the stand with the equipment. We had a great time at last year's METSTRADEso we are looking forward to the next one.
South Africa, Hong Kong… Who will be the next to receive sanctioned Russian yachts?
Exactly what we talked about happened. recent news digest. South Africa, following Hong Kong, gave asylum to the sanctions yacht of Russian oligarch Alexei Mordashov. The South African authorities confirmed the words of the press secretary of the President of South Africa in deed: "South Africa has no legal obligations to the US or the EU and will only support UN sanctions." Superyacht M/Y Nord will soon be in a safe haven in South Africa.
Superyacht Nord has finally been allowed to dock in Cape Town, South Africa. South African opposition leaders have called on the government to confiscate the 465-foot vessel. Alas, the current leader of the country rejected this call.
Vincent Magwenya, spokesman for South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, said: “South Africa has no legal obligation to comply with US and EU sanctions. South Africa's obligations regarding sanctions apply only to those expressly accepted by the United Nations."
Western partners have imposed sanctions against more than 1,000 Russian individuals and legal entities. From the beginning of the war until now, South Africa has avoided direct criticism of Russia. Moreover, the republic abstained from several UN votes condemning the war.
M/Y Nord left Hong Kong in the middle of the last one. The Nord is currently heading to South Africa and is due to dock in Cape Town on November 9, according to Marine Traffic.
The consequences of Hurricane Ian are still not eliminated
Recall that in late September, the east coast of the United States, Mexico and a piece of the Caribbean suffered as a result of the devastating hurricane Ian. The greatest impact of the elements fell on the coastal regions of the United States. A month later, the consequences of the disaster have not yet been completely eliminated.
If there were no big problems with the restoration of power lines, then with the evacuation of a huge number of boats everything is not so simple. At the moment, there is a shortage of premises for receiving damaged yachts. Moreover, the hurricane caused very serious damage to the entire East Coast yachting industry.
Safe Harbor, the marina operator in Dallas, Texas, has agreed to delay redevelopment of the former Port Phoenix Marina. This marina was destroyed 20 years ago by Hurricane Charley. Instead of reconstruction, a center for providing assistance and repairing boats will be created. Such events are organized by yachting enthusiasts everywhere.
The effects of Hurricane Yen will have long-term consequences. At the moment, 132 dead and 10,000 missing are known. The consequences for the US yachting industry are still not fully calculated.
