The annual increase in cost is already a familiar phenomenon for many. But what do yachtsmen need to be prepared for in 2023? Let's try to figure it out!
Insidious inflation
Inflation is such a thing that excites the minds of people of almost all ages and different incomes. The same goes for yachting. Inflation significantly affects prices, its increase or decrease is influenced by many different factors. Some are more long-lasting (like a pandemic), some are less.
However, yachting in Europe is still getting more expensive. In order to know what to prepare for in 2023, consider the most important issues related to finance!
Yacht charter and its cost
October 2022 was marked by record inflation of 10.7% in the EU. Croatia and Greece also showed interesting results - 13.2% and 9.1% respectively. According to the reports of many charter companies, in 2023 the cost of renting a yacht in Europe will increase by an order of magnitude.
Experts also noted the increase in the cost of energy. In 2023 they will also become more expensive. However, if you look globally, the yachting sector will not change this fundamentally. The season is expected to be lively and eventful, even despite the increase in the cost of charters, marinas and fuel.
At the same time, according to various sources, some charter companies refused to raise prices. These companies expect that the “human” approach will pay off and they will be able to pull out 2023 due to the number of customers.
Marina costs
The situation with marinas is still ambiguous. A representative of Dalmatia Charter believes that "the prices in the marinas will increase, although there will be no changes in the services offered on the spot." Charter company Istion Yachting claims that it has no information that prices in marinas will change yet.
So far, based on all available data, there are assumptions that prices will rise by 5-10% percent.
Restaurants, shops, cafes
Rising energy prices affect all areas of business - restaurants are no exception. Many yachtsmen who sail around Croatia a year ago complained about price gouging.
Here, of course, things are simpler than with marinas. If you want to eat deliciously and not lose a hundred or two euros, then look for restaurants and cafes in less busy places or small towns.
If you are a fan of the coast of Greece, Turkey or Italy, then it is unlikely that a serious price increase is expected there. At the same time, the cost of products in retail stores also did not increase much.
Transport costs
A yacht is great, but you have to get to it. The most popular way is by plane. The cost of the flight has risen, tickets have become more expensive. The reason is the same - the increase in the cost of energy. The situation is no better with bus trips.
However, booking in advance will help save on tickets. Prices during the peak season are usually an order of magnitude higher than if you booked tickets, say, a month or two in advance. Even despite the high cost of tickets for car flights, they will still be more profitable than the plane, if we are talking about the peak season.
Fuel
If you prefer to get to the boat on your personal iron horse, then take into account the increase in fuel prices. So, for Austria and Germany, the cost of gasoline will be more than 2 euros per liter. The price of gasoline in Croatia has also jumped - gasoline 11.58 kuna/l and diesel 13.19 kuna/l as of December 2022. In Spain and Greece, fuel has also risen in price.
Croatia, Schengen and money
Most tourists and yachtsmen are concerned about the issue of prices for a reason. We remind you that from January 1, 2023, Croatia switched to the euro. Hence the concern for the stability of the exchange rate.
Yes, the excitement is probably not unfounded. In almost all countries that have adopted the euro, prices have risen slightly. As financial experts say, unfortunately this possibility can neither be confirmed nor excluded. In the past 2022, prices have risen everywhere - in Croatia as well, but regardless of the transition to the euro.
