It is not easy to fit a new generation of electric propulsion into an elegant body. However, X-Yachts seems to be up to the task.
New boat from X-Yachts
X-Yachts is a Danish yacht manufacturer that has been building boats for over 40 years. Most recently, the shipyard launched a new futuristic sailing yacht. It is hard not to notice that it looks as stylish as it is eco-friendly. For X-Yachts X49E is the first yacht with electric generation.
The 12-ton novelty was created on the basis of the existing X49 model. The new Model E does not have traditional diesel engines. But there are two Oceanvolt electric motors with a power of 10 kW.
Engines are installed on two sides of the engine compartment. In the space where the engines were previously located, lithium batteries with a capacity of 28.8 kW / h are also located. Among other things, there is also an onboard DC generator with a power of 11 kW.
Power Generation X49E
The X49E can also generate up to 3.5 kW when cruising at over 8 knots. This means that when sailing for approximately eight hours, the batteries will be fully charged. "Full tank" is 100 percent, in this case, environmentally friendly and free.
To top it all off, the X49E is equipped with solar panels. They will be used to provide power to the rest of the boat's systems. These are lighting, navigation systems, instruments and so on.
“We didn't want to be the first in this area. We preferred to wait until the technologies and knowledge in the field of energy storage and generation mature properly. It is better to wait and do better than to sell a raw product!” Kraen Nielsen, CEO of X-Yachts, said in a statement. “And I am happy to announce that the time has finally come to introduce the first X-Yachts with electric propulsion.”
The first hull was created for the yachtsman John Haurum. John enjoys sailing both for recreation and competition.
“I plan to use the X49 primarily for long distance cruising, but the yacht has also been designed with good performance in mind. I intend to compete in events such as the Around Denmark Race and eventually the ARC Cross Atlantic,” adds Haurum.
