A unique ocean race for non-professional sailors

Clipper Round the World Yacht Race brings together sailing enthusiasts from all over the world, people of all ages and professions. Among the crew you can meet both very young sailors and people who have passed over 50 years ago. This is the only race in the world that gives anyone a chance to take part in a round-the-world sailing trip with interesting people from all over the world. Among the crew you can meet people who have never before been intimately familiar with yachting and have not even stepped on board a sailing boat. All in all, 40% members are absolute newcomers to yachting. However, race organizers always recruit 10 professional skippers who become team captains.

The international crews have a difficult 40,000-mile journey ahead, which they will have to cover in 12 months. Yachts will sail from Southampton to Madeira, through Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, then to Cape Town, to Western Australia, through New Zealand, Singapore, Qingdao in China, California, Panama, New York, Nova Scotia, Derry London Derry and Den Helder in Holland ... The race ended at the end of July with the team's victory Gold Coast Australia led by Captain Richard Hewson. The team scored 105 points during the entire race.

10 identical sailing yachts with a length of 68 feet are taking part in the race. All boats are made of fiberglass. They are lightweight and durable, which is, above all, necessary for a successful race. Each yacht is equipped with eleven sails, including 3 spinnakers and several stormy foresails. The crew consists of a skipper and 18 crew members. Each yacht has a shower, two toilets and a galley. The yachts are equipped with all the necessary equipment and electronics.
This year, a Russian was among the participants in the race. This is Lev Rodshtein from Moscow, an experienced yachtsman, a teacher at the Moscow Yacht School, and a former commander of a Russian nuclear boat, who decided to try his hand at this exciting race. He completed two stages of the Clipper race from Southampton (England) to Riode Janeiro (Brazil). In the 2013-2014 race, there will be completely new boats, designed not for 18 (as before), but for 20 crew members. Accordingly, the cost of participation in the race will be increased. At the moment, this year, participation in all stages of the race costs about $ 70,000. The cost of participation in each stage varies depending on the time and distance of the stage. You can take part in one or more stages of the race. The price includes: accommodation, meals, a set of yachting clothes and a three-week training course for yachtsmen. The price does not include visa processing and flight costs.
