In the world of yachting clothing, it is not often that there are big launches of new clothing lines. That is why Interparus could not pass by the grandiose event that the Slam brand arranged at the end of May!
Second wind and a new line of clothes
The brand was founded in Genoa in 1979. Many years later, Slam was acquired last July by the Italian holding company Vam Investments. The company is owned by Francesco Trapani and headed by Marco Piana. It was he who announced the relaunch of the classic lines of clothing for yachting. It happened on May 31 in Milan. The event was eloquently titled as "Slam is back".
Slam's CEO is Enrico Chieffi, who boasts a prestigious track record in sailing. He was world champion in the 470 and Star classes, two-time Olympic champion (in 1984 in Los Angeles and in 1996 in Atlanta). Enrico then was a successful manager at Nautor's Swan for 23 years.
“The first goal we set for ourselves,” said Enrico Chieffi at the opening of the event, “was to represent the excellence of our clothing. We want to create not only a beautiful thing! But also comfortable and practical. That is why we cooperate with the Italian Federation.”
“So,” concluded Slam's CEO, “the public that will purchase Slam clothing in the Pro, Custom and Outdoor lines will do so with skill. We want people to take their clothes seriously. And we are ready to demonstrate our skills in every piece of our clothes.”
At the end of his speech, Chieffi invited Marco Pian, CEO of Vam Investments, to the stage. Piana explained the reasons for investing in the brand: “Slam and the passion for sailing are closely linked in the heads and hearts of each of us. In its 40 years of existence, Slam has collected many stories to tell!”
“Slam is first of all Genoa. It's the spirit of Genoa, but Slam is also about young athletes that we sponsor and help grow."
Dream Team Slam
What is a clothing brand without ambassadors? The "Slam is back" event was the occasion to officially introduce the Slam dream team - a group of young and not so champions. The team consists of Ruggiero Tita and Caterina Banti (Tokyo 2020 Olympic champions in the Nacra 17 class), Marco Gradoni and Alessandra Dubbini (world champions in the 470 mix class 2021), Mattia Camboni (RSX World Championship silver medalist 2021), Matteo Iacino (world champion PWA Slalom 2016), Federico Alan Pilloni (2021 Junior Windsurfing World Champion), Sofia Renna (2021 Youth Slalom World Champion), Nicolo Renna (2022 European Championship Silver Medalist), Jacopo Renna (2021 Championship Runner-Up) European Under 17 Slalom 2014), Davide Di Maria (para-sailing world champion 2019), Furio Benussi on the Maxi 100′ ARCA SGR (recent winner of the Tre Golfi race in Naples).
Yes, some brands have a smaller list of available jacket models than Slam's list of ambassadors.
Collection 2022/2023
The culmination of the event was a podium dedicated to the new Slam collection. The design of the new collection is inspired by the latest technical innovations that have revolutionized the world of sailing.
Two main features of the collection: environmentally friendly production and the return of production capacity to Europe and Italy. Previously, you had to create complex logistics for the supply of materials for clothing, but now this is in the past.
The Slam 2022/2023 collection feels like a tried and true formula for good yachting. Another feature of the new lines will be combination. According to the creators, from the available 125 items in the line, you can collect more than 1000 unique images. Is it so? Let's learn in practice!
