What happened?
The yacht was confiscated by the Italian authorities. Why did this happen? It's simple - its owner was on the sanctions list.

According to Reuters in Rome, the Italian Prime Minister's office confirmed this morning (Saturday, March 12) that the confiscation of the yacht. The owner of the yacht is Russian billionaire Andrey Igorevich Melnichenko.
The yacht was created under a strict non-disclosure agreement. But it is reportedly worth around 530 million euros ($578 million).

It is reported that the yacht was confiscated in the northern port of Trieste. Melnichenko owns EuroChem Group and SUEK. EuroChem Group is engaged in the creation and production of fertilizers, and SUEK is engaged in the extraction and export of coal.
Briefly about sailing yacht “A”
Sailing yacht “A” is the largest sailing ship in the world at the moment. The construction of the yacht began in 2015 in the German city of Kiel. Already in 2017, the yacht went on her first sea voyage to Spain. There it was supposed to be brought and final tests carried out.

“A” is equipped with eight decks (!), has a length of 142.8 meters, a width of 25 meters and a displacement of 12,700 tons. The exterior and interior of the yacht was designed by Philippe Starck. The Dutch shipbuilding company Dykstra Naval Architects was responsible for the rigging and keel of the new yacht. The British firm Magma Structures at the Trafalgar shipyard in Portsmouth created three rotating monolithic masts from carbon fiber, about 90 meters high.

All the sailing equipment of the vessel was created by the US company Doyle Sails: sails with an area of 3747 m² are set, retracted and controlled automatically. The yacht can accommodate 20 guests and is manned by a crew of 54 people.
On board there is a large swimming pool, a garage for cars and dinghys, a helipad, a place to store a mini-submarine. On the lowest deck there is a special room from which you can observe marine life through glass with an area of 17.9 m².
