Rupert Holmes took a look at the new Moana M35 ′ WRC, which in its Extreme Base specification resembles an offshore short track like the Figaro 3.
The Moana M35 ′ WRC is a waterproof design with a rotating bowsprit, available in several different formats, each of which can be customized to suit the owner's requirements.
It can also be optimized for IRC, ORC and Open rating systems.
The very powerful hull shape is combined with a deep keel with a draft of 2.7m for incredible stability.
A tilting keel and foils are available as an alternative.
The Extreme Base specification is a very basic single or two-handed racing boat with a minimal Figaro 3 style interior.
The Race Base version is still race oriented but uses most of the body length for placement.
There is room for a full crew and enough comfort for occasional cruise use.
There is also a Comfort option with a fully equipped lightweight interior for fast sailing.
Everything about this boat is designed for serious use on the high seas.
For example, there is an emergency box in the bow and a completely watertight bulkhead in front of the rudders.
In addition, the large saloon roof provides flotation when rollover, which increases the stability angle.
The rudders are mounted on the transom and are designed for easy replacement at sea.
Although not shown in the drawings, the cockpit can be fitted with a fabric splash shield or an IMOCA style hard cover for added crew protection.
“We believe that a standard M35 ′ WRC with an extreme interior, a skilled and trained team on board, racing OSTAR, TWOSTAR, ARC, Middle Sea Race or championship in your region ... can win in its class and leave many larger boats behind.” Says Vittorio Malingri, an experienced skipper at the previous Vendée Globe and general manager of the Italian shipyard.
Malingri and Moana Bluewater Yachts have built over 130 yachts since 1982, and his Carbon Line team in Fano is a key laminate supplier to many major motor yacht brands.
