Jimmy Cornell, the superman and father of sailing rally, swaps one hull for two for his next epic sail, the Elcano Challenge.

Jimmy Cornell goes on a trip around the world again!
Known for his iconic voyages around the world in monohull boats by the name Aventura, in particular on an aluminum yacht Garcia Exploration 45, founder Atlantic Rally for Cruisers (ARC) plans to follow the route of the world's first circumnavigation - the one that they made 500 years ago Fernand Magellan and Juan Sebastian Elcano.
Cornell, who turns 80 next year, will sail on a 45-foot catamaran Outremer 4Xequipped with electric drives. He named the boat after Elcano, who took over the lead when Magellan was killed in the Philippines.

Starting a challenge with Seville, Spain, in October 2020, Cornell's path will follow exactly the route of the Magellan expedition. The legendary yachtsman and his crew will only enter the same places where Magellan and Elcano are staying. Passing across the Atlantic and along the coast of South America, they will pass through the Strait of Magellan into the Pacific Ocean. They will then travel across the Indian Ocean to South Africa and then head north to Seville to complete the 30,000-mile journey.
Cornell estimates the journey will take 9 to 10 months and will end in July 2021. The voyage around the world of Elcano and Magellan took several years.
