Have you often wondered: how are sailing yachts made? But in fact, the process of yacht production is very interesting! We decided to fill the gap in the knowledge of beginners and just interested people and lift the veil of secrecy. So how are yachts made?
Creating a yacht is a multi-stage and complex technological process. Sometimes it can last more than one month. In this article, we will look at the process of creating a sailing cruise boat using the Bavaria shipyard as an example.
Design department
Creating a yacht starts with an idea. Make the next model faster, lighter, more manageable... Or maybe sacrifice speed, but increase passenger capacity? All these questions designers ask themselves and each other.

For a long time, a plan has been brewing in their minds for the ideal yacht that can satisfy the needs of clients. How to optimally position the cockpit, make the hull more streamlined and aerodynamic, what type of front sail to use - genoa or staysail, do we need a spinnaker and gennaker ... After the conceptual and ideological answers to the questions are found, a three-dimensional model and drawing will be ready .
Design department
If the task of designers and engineers is to make the boat float in theory, then the designers create a unique appearance of the yacht. Materials, flooring, decks, furniture, room decoration, the color palette of the yacht - it all depends on the designers.

The main task of a good yacht designer is to make sure that even the most mass-produced yacht model differs from other equally mass-produced ones. Often the designers are also the designers, but just as often the shipyard has a separate design department.
We make the hull of the yacht!
After the designers and constructors have done their best, the time comes for work not only mental, but physical. Matrices are used to create a yacht hull. In simple terms, they can be called a form.

A gelcoat coating a few millimeters thick is applied to the mold. Then the blank (matrix) is sent further along the production line. A little later, the laying of fiberglass impregnated with epoxy resin begins.

To ensure rigidity, reliability and lightness of the body, a design is used, which is called a “sandwich”. The essence of such a “sandwich” is very simple: a special filler is placed between several layers of impregnated fiberglass.
Strengthening the body
It is worth noting that there is a special design that reinforces the bottom. It is created separately and then glued into the body. Before once again fixing the structure with fiberglass and glue, it is checked how well the body adheres to the reinforcing structure.

After the structure and the body have been securely fastened, the body is removed from the die. Then a special computerized machine begins its work, which will cut out all the important and necessary holes.

So, the body is reinforced, all technological holes are cut out. What's next?
Bringing the body...
For starters, it would be nice to bring the yacht to mind. Now it's time to install the base for the floor. So that in the future it does not creak, rubber pads are placed under the future floorboards. Now there is definitely no extra noise when you want to get to the refrigerator at night and profit from something!
Now it's time to install the engine! Let's not forget about the bow thruster. It would seem that start at least now ...

And what about the deck of the yacht?
The deck of a yacht is a whole different story! First, it is produced separately. Secondly, it often consists of external and internal parts. The essence of creating a deck is the same as the hulls - a gel coat is applied to the matrix, and then fiberglass and filler.

In order to connect the outer and inner parts of the deck, a special glue-cement is used. The main thing is not to forget that before this operation you need to lay cable channels. After that, you can definitely fasten the parts of the deck. When the parts are connected, a machine is passed along the deck, which makes all the necessary technological holes.

After that, the workers begin laying teak on the deck surface, as well as all other deck equipment. It is very convenient to install various parts by vacuum forming.
joinery shop
The joinery stands apart. Usually this workshop is a whole separate wondrous world. It is there that the mystery of creating furniture, interior and, often, exterior decoration of the yacht is going on.

The carpentry shop is divided into departments, each of which produces its own part of furniture and decoration. Each department has divisions for individual yachts. This is done in order to speed up the process of creating furniture.

In the vast majority, everything that can be wooden on a yacht is made of hardwood. After the design or a separate part is ready, it is sent to a special paint shop, where it is covered with paint and six layers of varnish. This will ensure the durability and reliability of wood. Here they make payolas for the floor.
Another video!
In this video you can see the production of the yacht using a slightly different technology!
Let's connect the deck and the hull!
Before this difficult stage, everything that is needed is laid into the body, installed, everything that is needed is laid: furniture, glue is passed through the joints, wiring, a sewer system, etc. are laid.

After all these works are completed and only the internal final finishing remains, it is necessary to connect the deck and the hull. They are glued together with special glue, and then additionally fastened with a powerful metal profile.

At the final stages, it remains to fine-tune and install windows. The windows are glued to silicone, inside everything fits into place and is brought to a presentation.
We forgot something. But what exactly? That's right, keel! The keel serves as the ballast for the yacht and is one of the most important parts of the boat. To install the keel, sealant and special keel screws are used.
Before screwing the screws through the bottom and fixing the keel, sealant is applied and the keel is connected to the hull. And only after the sealant has risen well, the screws are tightened and the installation of the keel is completed.
What's next?
Before sending a yacht for sale, it is necessary to carry out a number of checks, without which the yacht will not be taken anywhere even from the shipyard. For verification, there is a whole separate team of specialists who strictly checks everything that has been done.

If a marriage is found, the yacht will go for repairs and fine-tuning. When the specialists are satisfied with the quality of the work done, the boat will be sent to check for leaks.

They check for leaks in a special pool at the shipyard. The yacht is attached to special cables and immersed in water. If everything is in order, then the yacht will be sent either directly to the buyer or to the dealer. After that, the yacht begins its adventure of a lifetime...
Conclusion
Well, dear readers, how do you like such a small digression into the production moments of the yachting industry? How about periodically immersing yourself in the wisdom of yachting? We hope you enjoyed it and finally found the answer to the question: “How are yachts made?” See you in the next posts!
