CES has never been exclusively a yachting show, but a lot of innovations for the maritime industry were presented there. We hasten to tell you about the most interesting!
Electronics around the head!
The CES Consumer Electronics Show, which takes place in Las Vegas, is famous for its annual technological innovations - smartphones, giant TVs and laptops. This year, the hallmark of the exhibition was a large number of new products that are designed for the yachting industry.
Of the famous brands, Volvo Penta, Brunswick Corp., Navier and Candela have already been noted there. Our regular readers are aware that these are the companies that are moving the electrification of the maritime industry not by leaps and bounds, but by almost kilometer steps.

CEO of Brunswick Corp. Dave Foulkes, says: “A lot of people don't consider how much technology there is in the maritime industry. Our task is to demonstrate this, to unite yachtsmen from different continents!”
Mercury Marine, a division of Brunswick, showcased the new Avator 48V electric outboard motor at the show. In addition, they showed a new series of Veer electric boats and the Fathom e-Power system. Among these beauties, the fully interactive, large display stands out in particular. With it, you could control the boat in real time! Of course, not real, but virtual, but the effect, they say, was amazing.
The future is here, you just have to look around
Foulkes continues: “This is not just an interactive platform. We create a full-fledged emulation of real conditions and, last but not least, real problems that can happen to a boat or control. Docks, marinas, unusual cruising conditions - all this is difficult to recreate in a real pavilion. We will use the data obtained from the stand in the development of new autonomous systems.”

Not only European exhibitions have been affected by COVID - many companies have been creating exclusively virtual stands for the past two years. The same Brunswick, for example, returned to CES for the first time since its debut in 2020. The company also introduced its Sea Ray 370 motor cruiser with four Mercury outboard engines. Nowhere without the recent new V12 Mercury Verado.
Nearby is the stand of Mercury Marine's major competitor, Volvo Penta. The company announced a special tour for the company's clients. On the tour, customers will visit the Arctic, powered by Volvo's own hybrid electric system.
Other novelties
Another famous manufacturer of yachts and equipment from Sweden - Candela Yachts - was also present at the exhibition. This year, the company unveiled its C-8 Electric Foiler at CES 2023. This boat is a fairly well-known project of the company, which "will become a new word in the electrification of the industry."

The foiler trend continues around the world and the American company Navier showed a 27-foot (8-meter) foiler boat. The Navier 27 has a top speed of 30 knots and a range of 70 miles at 20 knots.
And what about in Europe?
And in Europe, the legendary Boot Dusseldorf will rumble very soon! If CES is more like a classic American exhibition, then Boot will bring together a huge number of yachtsmen from all over the globe.
We will make an important announcement very soon, so we recommend that you subscribe to us on social networks and stay tuned. Having slightly opened the curtain of secrecy, let's just say that this announcement concerns Boot Dusseldorf 2023. Stay tuned!

In general, no CES can come close to the German exhibition in terms of level and scope. By tradition, it is the Düsseldorf Super Exhibition that opens the new exhibition year. This year, some quite indecent number of exhibitors were going to come to the boat show in Düsseldorf. We can say that this is the first year after the COVID pandemic with so many participants. According to some estimates, there will be even more participants in the show than in pre-Covid times.

Find out what factors affect the smoothness of your boat Comparing dead-lift angles is a traditional way to find out how smoothly your boat is sailing. In other words, a higher deadrise means the ability to reach higher speeds without the effect of longitudinal rocking or pogoing. But deadweight is not only a characteristic that determines how well a boat will cut waves when moving. Let's take a closer look at the definition of "deadweight" and then consider other parameters that affect the smoothness of the boat. I hope this article will help you decide on your choice of a promising boat model for a test drive at the next boat shows.
