A new eco-friendly catamaran with an unusual feature - large inflatable sails. Interparus shares the first details about MODX70!
The future of yachting MODX 70
A new interesting concept was presented by Océan Développement. This is a French shipyard founded in 2008 by two sailors and athletes - Steve Ravoussin and Frank David.
The MODX 70 is the result of more than 10 years of experience in developing sustainable and affordable yachts. The concept was not only designed by Océan Développement. Such eminent companies as VPLP Design and Peirre Frutschi Design are also involved in the creation of the catamaran.
The companies managed to create a prototype of the catamaran of the future, which will use all the latest developments in the field of environmentally friendly yachting. So, one of the most interesting features of the new product will be giant inflatable sails.
These sails can be removed at any time and carefully packed into casings located on the roof of the cabin. When folded, they take up very little space. When the sails are stowed, the MODX 70 resembles a stylish power catamaran.
Technical features of MODX 70
Another important feature of the new catamaran will be solar panels. Océan Développement positions its brainchild as an environmentally friendly solution for yachtsmen who care about the environment. And one of the main attributes of environmentally friendly yachts and catamarans is solar panels. The total area of the batteries is 70 square meters.
A powerful 230 kWh battery pack will allow the engines to provide a range of 100 nautical miles on a single battery charge. Another function - hydrogeneration - will allow you to additionally generate up to 3 kW of electricity.
The MODX 70 case is also made according to all the canons of environmental concern. About 38% housing is made of bio-based epoxy resin that can be safely recycled. Recycled foam and flax fibers were also used in construction.
The MODX 70 will be available in three colors with flexible interior customization and a choice of trim materials. Globally, there are three versions of the catamaran: for private owners, for charter companies and an expedition version.
The first building of the MODX series has already been built. Work is expected to fine-tune the hull and install all the necessary equipment. The launch and testing of the first MODX 70 is scheduled for early June-July 2024.
