One of the largest and most beautiful sailing yachts - Nilaya - went for sea trials! Interparus shares the first details!
Completion of Nilaya
In February of this year, we talked about Nilaya - then all the main work on fine-tuning the yacht was completed. Recall that one of the main features of the new sailing boat was Featherlight technology. Thanks to it, it was possible not only to make the Nilaya lighter, but also to increase the strength of the hull.
The yacht was made to order for one of the regular clients of the Nauta Design studio. The Nilaya was built by the Royal Huisman shipyard. The main requirement was to create a powerful and fast sailing yacht that would be able to take part in regattas. In addition, the owner plans to take the Nilaya around the world.
In early April, the yacht was officially launched in Amsterdam. The first sea trials in the North Sea are now in full swing.
Modern technologies and design
In addition to Featherlight, carbon fiber was also actively used in the construction of the yacht. With its help, part of the hull, deck, wheelhouse, cockpit, mast and boom were molded.
The Nilaya also has a low, truly sporty profile with a classic straight stem and wide transom. The aft deck can be used as a full outdoor lounge area. The cockpit is protected by a fixed sprayhood with a carbon fiber roof. Closer to the tank is a storage compartment for the tender and other water toys

According to the shipyard, although carbon was used in the construction, the hull frame is still aluminum. Mario Pedola of Nauta Design says: “One of our first challenges was to show that we could create an aluminium-carbon hull that would be lighter than any existing aluminum fleet.”

The yacht also used a sail design called Doyle Sails. She also managed to reduce weight. According to Royal Huisman director Jan Timmerman, Nilaya has become an excellent "testing ground" for a range of technologies that will become an integral part of the shipyard's new yachts in the future. However, it will be possible to speak about this with confidence only after the Nilaya is run in by the owner.
Future
As befits any large superyacht commissioned by an "unnamed owner", the Nilaya is likely to disappear from the radar of the paparazzi and yachting publications for a while after sea trials. Although there is still hope for the imminent appearance of a superyacht at some major regatta of the type Giorgio Armani Superyacht Regatta next year.

Representatives of the Royal Huisman shipyard say that we must pay tribute to the owners, because without their consent it would hardly have been possible to build such a technologically advanced boat. No super innovative technologies were used in the construction of Nilaya, but the shipyard chose an evolutionary path - the smooth introduction of new and important features into its boats.

Jan Timmerman adds: “Nilaya has become the lightest aluminum sailing superyacht in the world. It is thanks to her that approaches to the design and production of sailing sports yachts will be revised.”

Nilaya is Nauta Design's largest project to date and the 14th largest yacht in Royal Huisman's fleet.
